The video game Femmebot RPG Stellar Blade is more known for the protagonist’s unexpected bikinis rather than its acclaimed post-apocalyptic plot. However, the game’s director, Kim Hyung-tae, anticipates that a potential sequel may address this issue.
In a recent interview (first spotted by Genki on Twitter), Hyung-tae appears to admit that the game Stellar Blade has a less engaging narrative. However, he clarifies that this was primarily a result of limitations during development, as opposed to being a deliberate choice.
In the interview, Hyung-tae concurs with the interviewer that Stellar Blade seems to have a sparse narrative, yet he also mentions that Shift Up, the Korean developer, initially aimed to delve deeper into the destroyed Earth’s backstory than they eventually managed due to time constraints. For instance, during Stellar Blade’s development, Shift Up had considered creating cutscenes to explain the reason behind the main character’s wardrobe changes. However, this idea was costly to execute.
As Stellar Blade’s production advanced, Shift Up found it necessary to eliminate unnecessary cutscenes to ensure they could complete the game on schedule. Hyung-tae suggests this unfortunate circumstance may be due to a perceived lack of a robust talent pool or system for narrative-focused game development in Korea; he shares this insight with This is Game.
Regardless, while Hyung-tae might be reluctant to expand Stellar Blade’s backstory based on fans’ individual perspectives of the game, he indicates that Shift Up plans to provide a more immersive storyline in the sequel – “should we get the chance to create the next installment.
It appears that Stellar Blade 2 might be in existence based on a recent Shift Up financial report. However, until an official announcement is made, there are countless NSFW mods available due to the game’s latest release on Steam. Beauty can also play a significant role in storytelling.
