For about two decades now, One Piece has gradually enlarged the Straw Hat Pirates’ team, providing Luffy with one exceptional crewmate after another. Although most of the positions within the crew were filled quite early on, the series continues to introduce new members even post-time skip. The most recent addition is Jimbei, who officially became a part of the team during the latter stages of the Wano Arc.
Through the course of its history, the popular series “One Piece” has presented numerous possible Straw Hat Pirate recruits, and it appears that this trend persists during the Final Saga. Although it appears improbable that Luffy will be adding new crew members at this stage, given the unpredictability of “One Piece”, anything is possible. The series might still astonish fans with one or even several fresh crewmates before the grand finale, and these characters truly deserve such an opportunity.
10) Loki
In the captivating world of “One Piece”, I’ve recently encountered an intriguing character named Loki, who first appeared during the Whole Cake Island Arc and has now graced the pages of Elbaf. His initial appearance was tantalizingly enigmatic, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that he offers much more depth than initially suggested. The question of whether Loki will be a friend or a foe was once shrouded in mystery, but as the story unfolds, it appears he might just be leaning towards the former. Despite his limited display of abilities thus far, Loki promises to be an incredibly potent asset to any crew – if only I, as an observer, could discern how such a formidable figure might find a place among the Straw Hats on their trusty ship, the Sunny.
Despite appearing admiring towards Rocks D. Xebec, similar to Blackbeard’s rivalry with Luffy, recent events suggest that Loki and Luffy share striking resemblances. In many ways, they could be considered two sides of the same coin, and as the Elbaf Arc unveils the truth about King Harald’s murder for the Straw Hats, it’s becoming increasingly clear that One Piece will eventually reconcile Loki with his actions.
9) Kung-Fu Dugong
Despite being primarily a supporting character, the Kung-Fu Dugong from the Ceaser Retrieval Arc is equally a compelling candidate for a Straw Hat pirate member. He boasts an endearing history and even packs a punch. The storyline unveiled that one of the dugongs trained by Luffy in Alabasta later established his own crew, the Sea Animal Pirates. Remarkably, their captain mirrors Luffy in many ways, right down to the scar on his chest.
In addition to being adorable and affectionate, it’s worth noting that this Kung-Fu Dugong might serve a strategic purpose as well. The series hinted that he possesses another skill – Armament Haki, which is a talent that many of the Straw Hat crew are yet to master.
8) Marco
An exciting potential new member of the Straw Hat Crew could be Marco, who previously fought alongside them during the Wano Arc when he was part of the Whitebeard Pirates. Since their captain’s demise, the Whitebeard Pirates have disbanded, leaving Marco without a crew to join. Having him permanently join the Straw Hats would offer significant benefits for them as they approach the Final Saga.
Marco might turn out to be indispensable for Luffy and the Straw Hats, given they encounter increasingly formidable adversaries such as Imu, the Five Elders, and the Holy Knights, who possess regenerative abilities. This is due to Marco’s unique ability to regenerate himself, making him an ideal match against these foes.
7) Karoo
Among the initial characters often discussed as potential crew members for the Straw Hats in the world of One Piece is Vivi. However, less frequently mentioned is Karoo, the charming head of the Supersonic Duck Squadron from Alabasta, who is essentially tied to Vivi. Although Chopper certainly fills the requirement for cuteness within the Straw Hat crew, it’s not a bad idea to have another lovable character like Karoo aboard. In truth, one could make the case that Karoo was there first, before Chopper.
6) Trafalgar D. Law
It’s clear from the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance that Law shares an exceptional bond with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, making him a potentially exciting and significant new member. Among the Worst Generation, it seems Law is the most beloved character, even catching Oda off guard with his popularity surge. Although the Straw Hats already have their own medical expert in Chopper, having Law on board would offer extra knowledge and combat abilities thanks to the Op-Op Fruit’s unique powers.
If it’s true that Law’s team was defeated by Blackbeard, it could be a perfect moment for Law to join the Straw Hat Pirates on their journey to the last island. This move would also help him uncover the secrets of the world, his long-held dream. Not to mention, it would bring joy to many “LuLaw” shippers! However, it’s important to remember that whether Law survived the battle with Blackbeard is still uncertain in the world of One Piece.

5) Bonney
Even though Bonney wasn’t part of the crew after the Wano Arc and didn’t transform into a Straw Hat, fans were hopeful that she would join the crew during the Egghead Arc. Her love for food and playful personality made her a great fit for Luffy and his crew. Furthermore, when it was revealed that Bonney could perform a Gear Five-like transformation, fans became excited about potential future team-up battles with Luffy.
Above all, the history of Bonney and Kuma resonated deeply with fans, who eagerly wished for Bonney to embark on her dream voyage across the globe. The Elbaf Arc hints that instead of sailing, Bonney, Kuma, and Lilith might establish a home in Giants’ Land, enabling Lilith to heal Kuma. However, due to Imu and the Holy Knights showing up, their plans have become more intricate, possibly necessitating Bonney to travel with the Straw Hats for a while longer.
4) Carrot
Initially, Carrot sailed aboard the ship called the Sunny secretly, but over time she’s won over many fans, earning a reputation as one of their favorites, often referred to as a “best girl.” Many wish for her to join the crew permanently. Carrot shares a strong connection with both Chopper and Luffy, and her Sulong form boosts the team’s combat potential significantly.
In the conclusion of the Wano Arc in One Piece, Carrot was crowned as the new ruler of Mokomo Dukedom. However, some fans continue to discuss whether she should have joined the Straw Hat Pirates instead, as doubts persist about her qualifications for the position. Some fans even wished that she had secretly joined them once more, but it appears that Carrot’s future storylines may primarily consist of filler episodes.
3) Yamato
Among the many unfulfilled moments at the conclusion of the Wano Arc, one that left me particularly yearning was the missed opportunity for Yamato to join the Straw Hat Pirates, despite his expressed desire and Luffy’s invitation. If Yamato were to become a part of our crew, not only would he significantly bolster our strength, but thematically, he would echo Oden’s position within the Roger Pirates, enhancing the striking similarities between our two legendary groups. Such a move would also complete Yamato’s personal journey by granting him the true liberty he has always craved.
Of course, it was quite vexing when Yamato decided to remain in Wano and make the journey across it first. Granted, Yamato’s presence was crucial for protecting Wano during this time of reorganization. However, as Wano appears to be becoming more stable and Yamato’s pilgrimage is nearing its conclusion, here’s hoping that Yamato won’t stay away for much longer, and might eventually join up with Luffy on another island, similar to how Jimbei did.
2) Bon Clay
One Piece boasts a multitude of characters, among them honorable figures like Pedro, Oden, and Fisher Tiger. However, few characters from One Piece elicit as much admiration from fans as Bon Clay. To this day, Bon Clay continues to be a popular choice for a potential member of the Straw Hat crew. Initially appearing as an adversary, his selfless act on behalf of the Straw Hats during the Alabasta Arc transformed him into a hero in the hearts of many fans.
Through his actions during the Impel Down Arc, Bon Clay firmly established himself as a beloved character among fans. He demonstrated unwavering devotion to Luffy and made yet another selfless sacrifice to help Luffy escape. For quite some time afterward, it was uncertain what had happened to him, but luckily, the cover story of Chapter 666 revealed that he is indeed still alive, keeping hopes high for his potential inclusion in the next crew.
1) Vivi
Supporters of “One Piece” rarely find common ground, but one topic they often unanimously endorse is that Vivi should be the last Straw Hat to join the crew, and she is arguably the most deserving character for this role. During the Alabasta Saga, Vivi captured everyone’s hearts, leading many fans to consider her (alongside Karoo) as honorary members of the crew ever since.
Personally, the latest discovery that Vivi, just like Luffy, belongs to the D Clan, has only intensified my belief that she should join the Straw Hat Pirates. Her distinct traits would have made her an ideal diplomat among them, a position she would naturally fill. The events since the Reverie seem to hint at a future encounter with Vivi, and it’s evident to me that she would be far safer in the company of the Straw Hats than with Morgan.
I personally find that you can enjoy the captivating world of “One Piece” across multiple platforms. Stream it on Crunchyroll or Netflix, or if reading manga is more your style, you’ll find it on Manga Plus and Viz Media.
