These 5 Marvel Heroes Deserve Their Own Video Game

In recent years, numerous Marvel video games have showcased an extensive array of playable characters. Games like Marvel Rivals and Marvel Snap present a multitude of heroes and villains, while the former also encompasses cards from various realities. However, large single-player role-playing games that immerse you in your preferred hero’s persona are unique experiences unto themselves. The success of Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man series demonstrates that players continue to crave a compelling story-driven superhero game. Despite this, game studios appear somewhat indecisive about the direction they should take for future Marvel video games.

Lately, EA has scrapped its “Black Panther” game project and earlier, DC’s “Wonder Woman” game was canceled. Yet, EA is still tied to Marvel for producing three more games. We know one of these upcoming titles will feature “Iron Man,” and another Insomniac game starring “Wolverine” is in the pipeline. Given that these characters are crucial cornerstones for the MCU and X-Men universe, it’s natural to focus on them as main characters in superhero games. However, I can’t help but wonder if it isn’t about time other heroes had their moment under the limelight? Personally, I believe so.

EA currently has at least two undisclosed Marvel game projects under development. Though it’s speculative that the main characters for these games are already chosen, one can only imagine. Here’s my wishlist of Marvel heroes who I believe would make excellent leads in upcoming superhero video games, ensuring a powerful and engaging superhero narrative. EA, feel free to take inspiration from this list for your future projects at no cost.

Captain Marvel

Listen, I understand that some people had strong opinions about Brie Larson, but in my opinion, she was unfairly treated in her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storyline. The first “Captain Marvel” film was generally well-received, despite a few issues, and it’s disappointing that the continuation of Carol Danvers’ story was halted for a less successful team-up movie called “The Marvels.” To make matters worse, it has been quite some time since a female-led superhero film on this scale has been produced, and with the cancellation of “Wonder Woman,” it seems that only male heroes are getting their spotlight for now.

Transforming Captain Marvel’s superpowers into an engaging video game would undeniably be thrilling! She can soar through the skies, unleash powerful energy blasts, and hold her own in close combat. The Skrull subplot adds intrigue, space travel expands the game world, and there’s a rich backstory waiting to be explored – aspects of her character that the MCU only hinted at. Here’s hoping for a Captain Marvel video game that gives us a glimpse into her universe, and let’s not forget about our feline friend Goose who should definitely have a role in the game!

Ant-Man

Ant-Man has shown a unique presence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s one of several Marvel heroes yet to appear in Marvel Rivals. It’s possible that this is intentional, but it’s undeniable that his powers could lead to some truly engaging gameplay.

In this video game featuring Ant-Man as its protagonist, it’s hard to resist the allure of entertaining map explorations and unusual viewpoint changes. Just like the movies utilize size-altering abilities for both comic relief and dramatic impact, the game could generate intriguing spatial scenarios for players to savor. Moreover, the humor in the game would serve as a refreshing contrast to the often overly serious superhero games.

Storm

It seems to me that Storm often takes a backseat in adaptations, despite being an essential X-Men member. The films seldom explore her rich and complex history, which is ripe for exploration. Why not give her the limelight by creating a video game where players can immerse themselves in her background?

As a devoted fan, it’s undeniable that the concept of weather manipulation would make for captivating game mechanics when it comes to Storm. Experiencing her in games such as Marvel Rivals or even earlier X-Men titles has been nothing short of exhilarating. Indeed, she is expected to appear in the upcoming Insomniac X-Men project, and her presence seems to be a staple in any game boasting a comprehensive roster of Marvel heroes. However, I firmly believe that Storm possesses the depth and complexity to star in her very own standalone title as well.

Doctor Strange

I’m not particularly fond of horror due to my tendency to get scared easily, but even I found the eerie elements in “Multiverse of Madness” quite effective. It seems that a game leaning more towards horror, featuring Doctor Strange as the protagonist, could be quite successful. However, we must avoid making his sorcerous abilities seem too dominant. This means designing truly terrifying adversaries and incorporating unexpected twists to keep players engaged and challenged.

I don’t enjoy horror much because I scare easily, but the slight horror elements in “Multiverse of Madness” were well done. A horror-themed superhero game starring Doctor Strange could be a great idea. But we need to ensure his magical powers aren’t too overpowered. This means creating truly terrifying enemies and adding unexpected twists to keep players guessing.

Similar to Carol, Stephen found his personal narrative overshadowed in later movies labeled as his own. This implies that Doctor Strange provides a richer exploration of this character’s intricacies within an adaptive format. While it wouldn’t be incorrect to say it’s a video game adaptation of Multiverse of Madness, it doesn’t have to be. Instead, why not embark on a school-at-Kamar-Taj journey reminiscent of Hogwarts Legacy?

Mystique

It’s clear that there are currently two X-Men listed, but let’s face it, some of the most intriguing Marvel characters at least share a connection with the X-Men. Mystique deserves a place on the list for reasons similar to Ant-Man, as her abilities could bring a fresh perspective to the superhero genre. Additionally, she has been underused in previous superhero games, considering how impressive her combat style appears in the movies and animated series.

As a gamer, I can’t help but envision an exhilarating experience where I’m granted the unique ability to assume identities of those around me. This power could lead to intriguing, undercover missions, providing a strategic gaming environment that keeps me on my toes without blowing my cover. It’s like merging the worlds of spies and superheroes into one thrilling adventure! This game would offer something beyond the typical superhero brawl, while still allowing me to leverage those extraordinary powers.
