This Summer, Adult Swim will debut one of their most visually distinctive shows yet – “Women Wearing Shoulder Pads,” an innovative stop-motion series entirely in Spanish language. In the past, Adult Swim has showcased many successful stop-motion productions such as “Robot Chicken”, currently working on a new special, “Morel Orel” and “The Shivering Truth”. This upcoming project aims to become part of their esteemed collection with its unique twist.
Back in 2023, it was initially revealed that a new stop-motion series titled “Women Wearing Shoulder Pads” was under development with Adult Swim. Since then, fans have been left eagerly waiting for updates. However, the most significant update yet has arrived! During this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Adult Swim showcased several projects, and “Women Wearing Shoulder Pads” was one of them. Mark your calendars, as the series is set to air on Adult Swim on Sunday, August 17th. Check out the first sneak peek footage from this exciting Spanish-language stop-motion series below!

Delving into the captivating, quarter-hour mystery that is “Women Wearing Shoulder Pads,” I’m utterly thrilled to share some intriguing insights! This stop-motion series introduces me to Marioneta, a spirited Spanish aristocrat residing in 1980s Quito, Ecuador. Here, she crosses paths with an eclectic assortment of vibrant and driven women, all grappling with the complexities of love, family, and cuys.
Given the tantalizing trailer and the intriguing premise for this upcoming series, it’s no surprise that I, along with many other enthusiasts, have a plethora of questions about what lies ahead in this exciting new project. Stay tuned as we unravel the secrets of “Women Wearing Shoulder Pads” together!
Why You Should Watch Women Wearing Shoulder Pads
Michael Ouweleen, President of Adult Swim, expressed his excitement about ‘Women Wearing Shoulder Pads’ when it was first announced, stating that despite numerous Spanish stop-motion shows focused on guinea pigs with an all-female cast, Gonzalo’s distinctive voice and the visually stunning stop-motion from Cinema Fantasma made it impossible to overlook this production. For enthusiasts of Adult Swim’s past stop-motion projects, this seems set to stand out as one of the most exceptional ones for multiple reasons.
The upcoming Spanish-produced show is expected to set it apart among Adult Swim’s offerings, as this approach has been tested on blocks like Toonami in the past. Fans have already enjoyed late-night airings of Japanese language hits such as “Ninja Kamui” (which has even been renewed for two more seasons), demonstrating that multilingual programs can indeed find a home on Adult Swim’s night schedule. Therefore, viewers are eagerly anticipating the unique perspective that a Spanish-language series could bring to our screens in the near future.
