Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman’s kids are breaking their silence.
Following the “alleged politically-driven murder” of a Minnesota lawmaker and her spouse on June 14, as Governor Tim Walz described it, their kids, Sophie and Colin, have shared their thoughts publicly.
The children expressed deep sorrow and sadness over the passing of their parents, Melissa and Mark, in a statement to People. They spoke of how these two individuals illuminated their lives, and finding it hard to accept they’re gone. The love their parents had for them knew no bounds. The void left by their absence is immense.
The remaining relatives of the Hortman family consistently showed appreciation for the assistance they received during the past few days.
The message further clarifies that we’re all secure and surrounded by those dear to us. We’re deeply moved by the affection and encouragement showered upon us, and kindly ask for understanding as we take time to mourn, giving due respect to our family’s privacy during this period.
TopMob News has attempted to reach the Hortman family for comment but has not yet heard back.
On the third day following the fatal shooting of Melissa, 55, and her husband in the early hours of June 14, Sophie and Colin issued a statement. Authorities apprehended Vance Boelter, 57, on June 16, who is believed to be the perpetrator of the Hortmans’ deaths, following a two-day search.
Prior to the Hortmans’ murder, it was stated at a press conference by Joseph Thompson, the District Attorney of Minnesota, that Boelter is believed to have paid a visit to the homes of other Minnesota officials, including Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette Hoffman, as reported by NBC News.
Approximately at 2 a.m., authorities claim Boelter appeared at the Hoffmans’ residence, masquerading as a police officer and concealing his face with an exceptionally lifelike silicone mask. During a press conference, Thompson elaborated that the couple opened the door after Boelter shouted, “I am the police!
As soon as they opened the door, the couple discovered that Boelter was not a policeman. Instead, the suspect barged into their house and fired shots at them, causing severe injuries. Their daughter dialed 911 immediately, and both victims are currently receiving intensive care in hospital.
At a press conference, as reported by NBC News, Thompson stated that Boelter had meticulously prepared for his attack. He delved into the backgrounds of his targets and their families. Utilizing the internet and various tools, he managed to discover their addresses and names, even those of the family members. Furthermore, he observed their homes and jotted down their locations.
