The momentum of “Solo Leveling” in dominating the anime sector remains unabated. Recently, this acclaimed anime surpassed a longstanding record previously held by “One Piece.” This year alone, “Solo Leveling” has achieved remarkable feats, including the release of its blockbuster second season known as “Arise from the Shadow“. Remarkably, the first season of this show was also named Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. It outshone notable contenders such as “Frieren”, “Dandadan”, and “Delicious in Dungeon”.
The latest findings from Sony, which owns Crunchyroll, reveal that the popularity of “Solo Leveling” remains unchallenged even months after Season 2 ended. In the ratings battle among users on Crunchyroll, “Solo Leveling” outperformed heavyweights like “Demon Slayer” and “Jujutsu Kaisen,” with only the long-standing champion, “One Piece,” still holding its ground. It seems that even the symbolic “One Piece” (a term we interpret as “the friendships we formed”) may not be able to hinder “Solo Leveling” from eventually claiming the title of the most beloved anime series of all time.
Solo Leveling Dominates on Crunchyroll
Sony’s recently released report has officially established that “Solo Leveling” holds the title of the most-watched anime ever on Crunchyroll. As per the data from their Business Segment Presentation & Fireside Chat 2025, “Solo Leveling” stands at the top of Crunchyroll’s View Count History (up until the end of March 2025).
It’s astonishing for an anime that started airing in 2024 to have achieved such a remarkable feat, especially considering the massive following of “One Piece”. For quite some time, this series has been the most watched and highly-rated on Crunchyroll, with viewers worldwide tuning in weekly to follow Luffy’s adventure in search of the elusive One Piece. However, it seems that a man named Sung Jinwoo, who is known for his cool demeanor and ‘aura farming’, has garnered more popularity than this 1,100+ episode nautical saga.

How Did Solo Leveling Become So Popular?
The animated adaptation of “Solo Leveling,” produced jointly by Sony and Aniplex, with A-1 Pictures handling the animation, made its debut on television screens in 2024. The first season was modestly successful and managed to earn a follow-up, but it didn’t break any records or create a sensation. However, the second season, released in early 2025, stormed through the anime scene, sparking intense discussions online and rapidly turning into an unprecedented viral craze.
The manhwa of “Solo Leveling” has gained immense popularity, with fans of Chugong’s original work likely contributing to the hype and boosting ratings. However, surpassing the fame of “One Piece” demands something extraordinary. What sets this series apart is not only its awe-inspiring action sequences and intense battle scenes week after week, but also its straightforward narrative that’s easy for readers to grasp and its potential to create memes, which has helped it gain traction on social media platforms.
It’s surprising that, despite being the most-watched anime on the leading global anime streaming platform, Solo Leveling hasn’t been officially confirmed for a third season yet. However, given the cliffhanger ending of Season 2, which introduced the next major villains for Sung Jinwoo to conquer, it’s almost certain that a renewal is imminent.
