The term “dream team” isn’t thrown around casually, but it certainly fits perfectly for the creative force behind Image Comics and Skybound’s latest series, Skinbreaker. Skinbreaker is an exciting new project from the powerhouse collaboration of Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead), artist David Finch (Batman, New Avengers), colorist Annalisa Leoni (Invincible Universe: Battle Beast), and letterer Rus Wooton (Transformers). As you might expect from the title, Skinbreaker appears to be incredibly wild, yet in an utterly fantastic manner.
The story, Skinbreaker, revolves around Elder Chieftain Enor, who is nearing the end of his reign. As Chieftain, Enor possesses the powerful weapon known as Skinbreaker, but his advanced age makes it difficult for him to even lift it. His successor, Anok, isn’t eager to assume power, leading to a fierce and brutal power struggle within their village, all while an ominous danger lurks menacingly beyond their borders.
Robert Kirkman expressed, “Throughout my entire career, I’ve aspired to collaborate with David Finch. Despite coming close on numerous occasions over the years, we both desired our partnership to be extraordinary. The ‘Skinbreaker’ series represents that unique collaboration. I believe this book serves as a pinnacle for both our careers. It’s an action-packed epic that is mercilessly intense yet filled with deep emotion and compassion. It will surprise you, make you tear up.
David Finch expressed that “Skinbreaker” is a deeply personal project for him, one that he’s felt passionate about throughout the creative process. It’s been an honor for him to contribute to its development, and he can’t wait to unveil it to all of us who have supported it along the way. Everyone involved has poured their hearts into this book, and he’s incredibly thrilled and proud to present it to us finally.
