Ironheart Official Episode Guide Teases the Arrival of One of Marvel’s Best Characters

The makers of Ironheart on Disney+ have shared an episode breakdown for their upcoming series, providing titles for each of the six episodes as well as a release plan that involves two sets of three episodes being released at different times. A detail in the episode list might intrigue Marvel enthusiasts: the fifth episode is titled “Karma’s a Glitch,” which includes a bold, red “M” within black text. This design choice appears to be a hint towards Marvel Comics’ red demon character, Mephisto, who has been speculated to make an appearance in Ironheart due to the mystical hints given in the series trailer and Sacha Baron Cohen’s enigmatic role in the show.

In the story of Ironheart, Dominique Thorne portrays Riri Williams, who after her adventures in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, goes back to her hometown of Chicago. There, her homemade armor suit, modeled after Tony Stark’s design, leads her into a showdown with Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood (Anthony Ramos). This encounter will be a battle between Riri’s state-of-the-art technology and The Hood’s powerful dark magic. In the comic book world, The Hood’s abilities usually stem from a mystical cloak and boots associated with Dormammu or other cosmic entities. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for rewriting characters‘ origins and establishing new relationships, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the MCU’s Hood struck a deal with Mephisto to gain his powers. This would fit well with Cohen’s role as the “Mystery Man,” a common MCU technique for keeping key character identities secret, implying that he could potentially play Mephisto in this film.

Riri’s journal is now accessible.

Mephisto’s Long-Teased MCU Arrival

Mephisto is one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful villains, usually controlling a realm reminiscent of hell and delighting in tricking humans into making harmful deals. Originating from the creative minds of Stan Lee and John Buscema, Mephisto first appeared in Silver Surfer #3, published in December 1968. His character bears resemblance to Mephistopheles from the timeless Faust tale. Over the years, Mephisto has been a formidable adversary for numerous Marvel superheroes like Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, the Avengers, and particularly Spider-Man, being the mastermind behind the contentious “One More Day” narrative that nullified Peter Parker’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson.

For a while now, fans have been eagerly guessing when a particular character would make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, with many attempting to forecast his arrival. However, earlier predictions didn’t pan out. But in the series ‘Agatha All Along’, Mephisto was explicitly mentioned for the first time in the MCU during the third episode titled “Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials.” In this episode, Jennifer Kale (played by Sasheer Zamata) hints at another character potentially being an agent of Mephisto. The showrunner of ‘Agatha All Along’, Jac Schaeffer, confirmed that this reference was intentional, acknowledging the long-standing fan theories. Furthermore, Schaeffer also mentioned that Mephisto plays a significant role in Agatha’s storyline in the original comics. This deliberate mention of Mephisto could lend credence to the current speculations surrounding ‘Ironheart’.

The character Ironheart is set to debut its initial three episodes on Disney+ on June 24, 2025. The concluding three episodes will follow suit on July 1, 2025, marking the end of this six-episode series. Notably, this TV series serves as the culmination of Phase Five within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
