Star-Studded Cast Revealed for The Other Bennet Sister Adaptation!

It has been announced that Ella Bruccoleri from Call the Midwife will play the leading role in BBC’s The Other Bennet Sister. As a result, more cast members for this period drama have been unveiled, and many well-known actors are expected to appear.

It has been revealed that along with Bruccoleri portraying Mary, Ruth Jones from Gavin & Stacey and Richard E Grant from The Thursday Murder Club are set to share roles as Mr and Mrs Bennet in the upcoming production.

Indira Varma (from Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Richard Coyle (known for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) will take on the roles of Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, Mary’s aunt and uncle who hire her as a governess to their three children and expose her to an entirely different social environment.

For the trio of Gardiner children under scrutiny, Roisin Bhalla is cast as Marianne, Reggie Absolom takes on the role of George, and Jasmine Sharp portrays Rebecca.

Additionally, we’ll see actors like Laurie Davidson (from “A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story”) taking on the roles of Mr. Ryder, and Dónal Finn (known for “SAS Rogue Heroes”) as Mr. Hayward. New characters are being introduced to enrich the universe of Jane Austen.

Among the characters featured, you’ll find Ann Baxter, portrayed by Varada Sethu from Doctor Who, and John Sparrow, played by Aaron Gill known for Smothered.

Although the main focus of the series lies in unveiling Mary’s personal journey stepping out of her sisters’ shadows, rest assured that the Bennett sisters will not be absent from the show. Instead, they will also play significant roles in it.

In this production, I’m taking on the role of Jane, which is brilliantly portrayed by Maddie Close, also known as Sunflower Child. Lizzie, the character I share scenes with, is played by Poppy Gilbert, who you might recognize from Chloe. Kitty, another significant character in our story, is skillfully brought to life by Molly Wright, best known for The A Word. And lastly, the enigmatic Lydia is portrayed by Grace Hogg-Robinson, a familiar face from The Coroner.

As a fellow Austen enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that some beloved characters from the novels will be making an appearance in the series. Tanya Reynolds, known for her role in The Decameron, is set to bring Caroline Bingley to life. Anna Fenton-Garvey, who starred in The Nevers, will portray Charlotte Lucas. Lastly, Ryan Sampson, recognized as Mr Bigstuff, has been cast as Mr Collins.

The filming for the series has commenced in Wales, focusing on a 10-episode narrative that will delve into and broaden the universe of Pride and Prejudice from the frequently underestimated viewpoint of Mary Bennet.

Upon revealing the cast, Lindsay Salt, head of BBC Drama, expressed her delight as cameras began to roll on our lively, intelligent, and humorous modern adaptation of the cherished universe created by Jane Austen.

Featuring an exceptionally well-chosen ensemble headed by Ella, Ruth, and Richard, “The Other Bennet Sister” promises to be a delightful spectacle that audiences won’t be able to resist when it airs on the BBC in the coming year.

In a similar vein, producer Jane Tranter notes: “For quite some time now, we’ve been quietly developing The Other Bennet Sister. Over the years, Janice’s captivating characters have flourished and evolved in our minds as Sarah refined her scriptwriting.

As a movie critic, let me share my thoughts: Truly, the actors in this production have some big shoes to fill – but they’ve exceeded expectations! This is undeniably the dream team of Austen adaptations. Each actor infuses their character with a unique charm and energy that breathes new life into Austen’s world. As a member of the Bad Wolf crew, I’m thrilled to be part of a project that delivers such unbridled joy.

The series narrative goes like this: “Mary embarks on a journey to break free from her sisters’ shadows, discovering her unique identity and destiny. As fate would have it, she becomes entwined in a grand romance during her quest.

She’s planning to depart from her family home in Meryton, venture into the social events of Regency London and explore the landscapes of the Lake District. This adventure is driven by a quest for freedom, self-discovery, and personal transformation.
