The game “Donkey Kong Bananza” is set to release in about a month, and if you’re still hesitant about Donkey Kong’s platforming exploits, the latest Direct might change your mind. It not only confirmed Pauline’s presence and unveiled the Void Company as the main villain, but also offered insights into some additional activities that you can engage in.
Previously mentioned, Banadium Gems are a vital type of collectible. They provide skill points that enhance stats such as increased punching power or extending your Sonar’s reach to discover hidden treasures from greater distances. Additionally, they allow you to acquire new skills, like the Surf Surf ability, which amplifies movement while surfing on debris.
Bandium Gems are concealed globally, and although you may stumble upon them by breaking through various settings, they can also be acquired in the Challenge Course Ruins. These areas present tasks such as time-restricted battles, side-scrolling levels, statue destruction while on a mine cart ride, dodging lasers, and more.
Instead, you can gather Banadium Chips to swap for Gems. Gold can be traded as well, with options like the Red Balloon to restore health when falling into a bottomless pit. Additionally, Fossils can be swapped for exclusive outfits for Pauline and Donkey Kong that come with special abilities. For instance, the Cyan Lagoon Vest extends your Sonar range by 20%, while the Swimmin’ Britches boost swimming speed by 15%.
Maps that lead to buried treasures, like gems and fossils, are excellent for determining what collectibles are still missing. Additionally, these maps offer some unique features such as altering Donkey Kong’s fur color, constructing portals for relaxation and music enjoyment (enemies contribute new tunes when defeated), and a Photo Mode. And if you ever need to revisit earlier levels, the Subterranean Eels can assist you with that.
Donkey Kong Bananza launches on July 17th for Nintendo Switch 2 at $69.99.
