Marvel’s Ironheart Teaser Reveals Eric André’s MCU Role as an Iron Man Villain

Marvel Television’s show, “Ironheart,” sets up a battle between technology and magic, but in an interesting twist, Anthony Ramos’ character from “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” known as Parker Robbins (The Hood), assembles a team that bridges this divide. A sneak peek for the June 24 premiere on Disney+ showcases Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) joining forces with The Hood’s team, which includes pyrotechnics specialist Clown (Sonia Denis from “Birdgirl”), the physically strong duo Ros and Jerry Blood (Shakira Barrera and Zoe Terakes), the knife-wielding “H.R.” John (Manny Montana), hacker extraordinaire Slug (Shea Couleé, winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars”), and tech specialist Stuart Clarke (Eric André from “The Eric Andre Show,” who might be familiar to fans of the Iron Man comics).

“It’s not Stuart, it’s Rampage,” André’s techie says in the new clip, which you can watch below.

In comic books, the character known as Rampage first appeared in issue #5 of Champions back in 1976. This villainous figure was brought to life by writer Tony Isabella and artist Don Heck, who also collaborated with Stan Lee on creating Iron Man. Known as “the everyman of super-villains”, Rampage was the first character born out of the economic recession that hit in the 1970s.

As an ardent observer, I witnessed a formidable clash between Rampage and the heroic alliance of Hercules, Ghost Rider, Black Widow, Angel, and Iceman, based in Los Angeles. This confrontation took place while Rampage was sporting the advanced exoskeleton suit he designed to modernize law enforcement. However, a turning point came when Tony Stark’s Los Angeles enterprise embarked on a similar project, securing government contracts that could have revitalized his struggling company, Clarke Futuristic. In response, he adorned the lightweight exoskeleton and unleashed a destructive rampage.

After falling from grace as an inventor and turning to bank robbery, Clarke eventually founded the Recession Raiders – a group of heavily armored marauders. This gang clashed with Wonder Man and Beast, members of the Avengers. Following the collapse of his own company, Clarke began working for Baintronics Inc., a firm established by Sunset Bain, also known as Madame Menace, a notorious arms dealer who had previously raided Stark Industries and appropriated Stark technology. In the Iron Man comic series from the 1990s, Clarke was part of Bain’s tech and munitions company, which sought to undermine Stark at a point when Jim Rhodes had retired from being War Machine.

During the superhuman conflict, the Punisher’s stockpile ran dry and Clarke managed to break free from the Raft. Later on, Frank Castle found Clarke and equipped him with advanced tech devices and firearms, making Clarke a valuable asset known as “Microchip.” More recently, Clarke reemerged as Rampage, a role he took up when Doom seized the Iron Man title while Stark was unable. Rampage then teamed up with the Hood’s criminal gang, led by Robbins, to band together villains and challenge Doom in his Iron Man armor.

However, it’s important to note that Rampage isn’t the only villain associated with Iron Man that has a hidden identity. The characters Ros and Jerry from Ironheart are modeled after the Blood Brothers, R’Hos Blood and Gh’Ree Blood, who are known as Ross and Gary in this context.

The Blood Brothers, a duo first introduced in Iron Man #55 by Jim Starlin and Mike Friedrich back in 1972, possess a unique bond. The more closely they are situated, the stronger they grow as one entity. Consequently, when confronted by them in his Iron Man comic adventures, Tony Stark’s strategy is to keep them apart. Hailing from the Roclite species, these powerful adversaries initially served Thanos and have clashed with characters such as Drax the Destroyer and The Thing from the Fantastic Four.

Following the occurrences depicted in 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, the storyline for “Ironheart” unfolds as Riri, driven to leave an impression on the world, revisits her home city of Chicago. Her innovative approach to constructing iron suits is fascinating, yet in her quest for greatness, she becomes entangled with the enigmatic figure known as the Hood.

The highly-anticipated Marvel series titled Ironheart, featuring stars such as Lyric Ross, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Matthew Elam, and Anji White, is set to debut with a three-episode premiere on June 24 on Disney+. Another group of episodes will be released one week later on July 1.
