Cruise’s Secret Support for Top Gun’s MCU Stars

Three years past, Danny Ramirez and Lewis Pullman experienced significant growth in their acting careers as they co-starred in Top Gun: Maverick. Currently, both are linked with Marvel’s Cinematic Universe – Ramirez is set to return as Joaquin Torres (also known as the new Falcon) in Captain America: Brave New World, while Lewis Pullman makes his entrance as Bob Reynolds (Sentry) in Thunderbolts*, both slated for 2025 release. I was delighted to discover that Cruise has been backing their work, an extension of his commitment to revitalizing the film industry.

In a recent chat with Danny Ramirez, discussing his role in “Captain America: Brave New World” now streaming on Disney+, he opened up about the extensive reshoots for the film and shared insights on how Christopher McQuarrie, co-writer of “Maverick,” contributed to it. During our initial exchange, I asked Ramirez if he had spoken with Tom Cruise since the release of Brave New World, curious to know his thoughts on the movie. To my query, he revealed:

I talked to him, but I’m not sure what his thoughts were about it. Just like Lewis Pullman entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s extremely proud of us. He spoke extensively about the impact, particularly as storytellers… It’s not often that one gets an opportunity to join a universe where people will be watching. In the acting profession, there are many things we do that go unnoticed, correct? There are projects that never see the light of day and remain hidden from public view. However, Tom, who is a storyteller and film enthusiast, finds our work, as Bob and Fanboy turned into Bob and Falcon, simply astonishing. He’s been watching us since the beginning.

I chatted with him, but I’m not sure what he thought of it. It’s just like Lewis Pullman joining the Marvel Universe – he’s really proud of us! He talked a lot about the impact, especially for storytellers… It’s pretty rare to join a world where people will be watching. In acting, there are plenty of things we do that no one ever sees, right? I mean, there are projects that never make it big and stay under the radar. Anyway, Tom, who loves stories and movies, thinks what you and Lewis are doing is mind-blowing. He’s been following us since we were Bob and Fanboy.

As a die-hard film fan, I’ve been following Tom Cruise’s career closely, and lately, he’s been all about promoting “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” his supposed last hurrah as Ethan Hunt. Given his busy schedule, it’s understandable that he might not have found time to catch “Captain America: Brave New World” yet. But if he had watched it, I can just imagine him sharing his thoughts with Danny Ramirez, who also stars in the Mission: Impossible series.

What’s heartening though, is that despite his packed schedule, Cruise has taken time to discuss their respective careers with both Ramirez and Lewis Pullman. It’s these kinds of moments that make the film community so special – the camaraderie and shared passion for our craft.

Despite some criticisms about the quality of its recent films and shows, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to be one of the most influential franchises globally, holding the title as the highest-grossing film franchise. Regardless of opinions on these narratives, they consistently draw audiences to cinemas – a fact that Tom Cruise appreciates. In fact, during the pandemic, streaming services attempted to acquire the rights for Top Gun: Maverick, but Cruise held out for a theatrical release instead. This decision proved successful, generating a staggering $1.3 billion in global box office revenue.

It’d be great if Tom Cruise finds the chance to catch up on the movies “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts,” given his fondness for superhero action. If he hasn’t seen them yet, I believe he’ll enjoy Danny Ramirez and Lewis Pullman as superheroes. He might want to do this anyway, as both characters will reappear in the upcoming Marvel films “Avengers: Doomsday” (set for release on December 18, 2026) and “Avengers: Secret Wars” (coming out on December 17, 2027).

I hope Tom Cruise watches the movies Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts because he’ll like seeing Danny Ramirez and Lewis Pullman as superheroes. He should do it before they return in Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027).

Outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’m hoping that Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, and Sir Patrick Stewart will join forces again for Top Gun 3, which does have a script already written. You can stream both existing Top Gun movies with your Paramount+ membership.
