Since its initial launch on June 19, 2020, The Last of Us Part 2 continues to be a topic of intense debate – still considered one of the most contentious game launches in PlayStation’s history.
Previously, a highly anticipated PS4-exclusive game from Naughty Dog, the anticipation for this high-budget sequel was massive. This is because it’s a follow-up to what numerous people consider one of the best games ever made – The Last of Us.
In contrast to what some fans might have hoped for, Part 2 was not a safe, liberal-leaning sequel. Instead, it was deliberately crafted to be a challenging and, at times, unsettling experience, intended to provoke and disturb its viewers.
Initially, Part 2 of this game provoked opinions much less frequently seen among other games. While it received overwhelmingly favorable responses from critics, it ignited strong criticism from certain players due to its storyline development, which they found unappealing.
Well, I personally found Part 2 to be a thrilling, brave continuation that pushed the boundaries of emotional engagement for me as a gamer. But I get it, not everyone shares my sentiment – some folks seemed to appreciate it just as much.
Over time, it seems that the more polarizing views have become less pronounced, as The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has been generally well-received on PlayStation 5, if we consider opinions in a broader context.
