As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that I can now immerse myself in “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic“! This new addition expands the intricate tapestry of the FNAF universe, a mystery that has always captivated me. Until now, most insights about the Mimic were drawn from “The Mimic” tale in the FNAF books, some of which aren’t entirely consistent with the game lore and may be set in different continuities. As you might anticipate, playing “Secret of the Mimic” leaves me pondering how this new content aligns with the larger narrative of the FNAF universe – a sensation that seems to be a constant companion after playing every game in the series!
In the additional content, or DLC, for FNAF: Security Breach titled Ruin, we discover that the Mimic character makes its way to the Pizzaplex. This menacing entity becomes a major challenge for Cassie as she navigates the dilapidated remains of the Pizzaplex in her search for Gregory. Since Secret of the Mimic and Ruin are set decades apart, there’s a considerable time gap that leaves the Mimic’s journey to the Pizzaplex unexplained. However, using information from previous games and what we learn in SotM, we can speculate on how the Mimic might have ended up at the Pizzaplex.
The Two Primary Mimics
As a gamer, I can’t definitively count how many versions of the Mimic evolve over time, especially after encountering numerous prototypes in “Secret of the Mimic.” However, there are two main Mimics that stand out: M1 and M2. M2 is the one we often see in the series, making its appearance in “Ruin.” Both Mimics are enigmatic, but M2 is downright homicidal most of the time, possibly due to the people it imitates and its identity struggles. It was designed to replace David after his demise, but it mimicked him so perfectly that Edwin became angry and broke its legs during a fit of rage. M2 learned from this experience and eventually left Edwin alone, dying with leg injuries while impersonating Edwin instead of David.
Contrasting M1’s origins, it was more of an accidental development by Edwin, who continued to hear Fiona even after her demise. Essentially, he designed the structure enabling her to persist as an endoskeleton and attend to David, though it remains ambiguous whether Fiona’s spirit inhabited M1 in the same manner as the children’s spirits later did with animatronics, or if M1 merely mimicked Fiona exceptionally well. Later on, the endoskeleton of M1 was utilized for M2, with Fiona being housed within a stationary terminal in an arrangement that probably intended to be short-term.
M2’s Journey to the Pizzaplex
In this section, we’re forced to resort to guesswork since no definitive information is available yet. It seems that M2 isn’t connected to the Pizzaplex as suggested by the various endings. As for the storyline of “SotM”, Arnold, our protagonist, visits Edwin’s house to gather items on behalf of Fazbear Entertainment. Unfortunately, he failed to meet their contractual obligations and therefore lost ownership of the costumes and robots he had created for them.
From what we gather, it appears likely that M2 eventually falls into the ownership of Henry Emily following Arnold’s work completion, as he was a part of the contract and would profit from access to Edwin’s inventions. Crucially, for M2 to reach its final destination at the Pizzaplex, it must first be in Henry’s possession. This is due to the fact that M2 is among the animatronics stored within Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Place, even though we don’t directly engage with it in the game “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator.
In the finale of Pizzeria Simulator, Henry winds up locking himself in with the animatronics and setting Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Parlor ablaze. Yet, not all animatronics were annihilated at that moment; it’s suggested that the Mimic was trapped within the fire debris. This is logical since the Pizzaplex was constructed on the ashes of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Place, allowing the Mimic to inadvertently gain entry to this new location, where it would eventually become a menacing presence.
