Bogieville – DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

The initial sequences establish the overall mood of the story, and in this case, it’s a day turning sour for two characters, Ham (Arifin Putra) and Jody (Eloise Lovell Anderson). Both have lost their jobs on the same day, but things take a turn for the worse when they accidentally hit someone outside Bogieville, a rundown caravan park in Georgia. The plot thickens as we discover that Madison (Sean Cronin), a man wearing grubby overalls, resides in the basement of this park and seems to echo the infamous Josef Fritzl scenario. However, it’s Madison’s brother Crawford (Jonathan Hansler) who has a hidden agenda – he wants to help Ham & Jody because ultimately, he is a caretaker for Madison, Lily, and other residents who are all vampires. Crawford aims to shift his responsibilities onto the unlucky duo.

Additionally, the narrative incorporates a Sheriff and a local doctor (Angela Dixon), both tracking an escalating number of mangled bodies. This detective aspect of the movie slows the tempo, causing the intended 90-minute runtime to stretch to 110 minutes. It’s unfortunate because there are plenty of engaging elements in the film without their inclusion, particularly the intriguing relationship between Harker and the masses of vampires he governs in Bogieville. The standout aspect is Poppie Jae Hughes’ portrayal of the young vampire. She possesses a captivating screen presence with her fang-faced and bloodied appearance, and the story would have greatly benefited from further exploration of her character.

According to Henry P Gravelle’s screenplay, this is his debut feature film production. Although low-budget vampire films frequently delve deeply into the vampire lore – such as Cronos, Let the Right One In, and Near Dark – there isn’t much of that exploration in this script. Instead, it’s the plot’s resemblance to Reinfield’s work that could have been more fully developed, particularly with regards to the character of Lily.
