Russell T Davies, the showrunner of Doctor Who, reminisced about collaborating with Jodie Whittaker during her surprising guest appearance in season 15, stating that she was equally excited to return, much as fans might anticipate.
In the final episode titled “The Reality War,” Jodie Whittaker, who played the Thirteenth Doctor for three seasons and two specials spread across five years, unexpectedly showed up.
At that location, she engaged in a short conversation with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, observing a distinct shift in attitude from one incarnation of the Time Lord to another.
As a devoted cinephile, I find Jodie Whittaker’s portrayal of the Doctor to be more straightforward compared to previous incarnations played by Peter Capaldi and David Tennant, who at times came across as overtly direct, detached, or even awkwardly emotional. However, Mandip Gill’s Yaz and Jo Martin’s The Master bring a warmer, more emotionally resonant energy to the series, making it a more heartfelt viewing experience for me.
In the most recent edition of Doctor Who Magazine, the showrunner Russell T Davies expressed his pleasure, saying, “Working alongside the incredible Jodie was an immense joy.
Since her Doctor transformed into David Tennant’s Fourteenth, it seemed fitting that Jodie and Neuti should share a moment – an unusual thought, as if they had each regenerated into the other, they would have never crossed paths!
As a film enthusiast, I’d put it like this: “You get what I’m saying, right? There was an unexplored connection between those characters that this episode successfully bridged.
Whittaker has consistently spoken positively about her experience as the Doctor, suggesting in previous interviews that she’d gladly take up the role again if given the opportunity.
Davis made it clear to Doctor Who Magazine readers that he wasn’t simply being polite when he said it, but rather, organizing her short comeback turned out to be both swift and effortless.

He commented: “She expressed it sincerely from the depths of her heart. Consequently, I penned the scene, submitted it… and received a response more swiftly than any other time, possibly faster than the speed of sound!
Audience members who appreciate the Whittaker epoch found a specific interchange between Characters Thirteen and Fifteen particularly stirring. This heartfelt exchange unfolds following an unexpected declaration by Fifteen: his love for Thirteen.
“I should say that to Yaz,” Thirteen realised in that moment.
“You never do,” Fifteen replied. “But she knows.”
During the last summer, she expressed about their concluding moments as follows: “Those moments were incredibly beautiful, especially the ones inside the TARDIS – they were a joy to film since it was our last day on set.
