The official account of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (previously known as Twitter) posted a new image to mark surpassing 395,000 followers and to hype up the approaching series finale in the coming week. The image portrays Shuji aboard the Kira-Kira vessel, his eyes cold and lifeless. The term “Kira-Kira” refers to a realm where individuals can interact with one another amidst a vibrant spectrum of colors. This concept is linked to the Newtype links highlighted in the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime series. Shuji Ito was introduced as one of the primary characters of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, alongside Amate “Machu” Yuzuriha and Nyaan. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred in Episode Seven, with Shuji seemingly being drawn into the same transcendental plane as Kira-Kira.
In Episode Eleven, the second last episode of the series, Shuji makes a dramatic comeback. Unlike his casual demeanor in the early episodes, Shuji now displays a more grave aspect of his character. He confides that he intends to destroy the world to protect Lalah Sune, a significant character in Gundam lore. The animated series Gundam GQuuuuuuX presents two versions of Lalah, hinting at one possibly originating from an alternate universe. Furthermore, there are strong indications that Shuji himself might hail from a different dimension compared to the other characters.

In the show, Shuji stood out as a character shrouded in mystery due to his soft-spoken demeanor and laid-back persona, making it challenging to decipher his true intentions. A significant puzzle the series presents is the question of how Shuji came to pilot the legendary Red Gundam, a mecha suit that significantly contributed to the Principality of Zeon’s victory. The Red Gundam vanished simultaneously with Char Aznable, an emblematic character in the franchise, during the final days of the One Year War. Shuji never reveals the source of the Red Gundam, leading viewers to ponder and speculate about its origin.
Despite his initial portrayal as a calm and amiable individual, Shuji’s actions hinted at underlying sinister intentions. In Episode 4, he callously killed Shiiko Sugai during a skirmish within their clan, demonstrating an unyielding determination to achieve his goals. He maintained a distant relationship with both Machu and Nyaan, seemingly disregarding their affection for him. As the story progressed, his return at the end of Episode Eleven revealed more of Shuji’s darker side, suggesting that he may not have been as kind-hearted and composed as he initially appeared to Machu in the early episodes.
In episode eleven, the classic RX-78-2 Gundam emerged from a portal instead of the updated version seen in “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”. This suggests a connection between Shuji and the iconic Gundam, hinting that he may have summoned it from another dimension. Although it’s not explicitly confirmed, it strongly implies that Shuji is piloting the RX-78-2 and will be Machu’s final adversary in the upcoming episode. This plot point mirrors the finale of “Mobile Suit Gundam 00”, where Setsuna battled someone controlling a mobile suit with colors similar to the RX-78-2.
Machu’s intense affection for Shuji places the ginger character in a tough predicament, as she must decide whether to confront him. Additionally, it appears that Nyaan harbors feelings for Shuji too, hinting at a potentially thrilling and dramatic climax for the series. There’s a chance that Shuji’s sudden change of allegiance is a ruse, and they may instead face a formidable adversary. It could be that Shuji is correct, and the world needs to perish, lending Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX an ending similar to that of Evangelion.
