Things weren’t always golden on the Golden Girls.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I’ve come across some fascinating behind-the-scenes stories. One that stands out is the dynamic between Betty White and Bea Arthur on the classic sitcom we all love. Contrary to their warm and endearing portrayals of Rose Nylund and Dorothy Zbornak, these talented actresses were not as close off-screen as their characters suggested. While they maintained a level of professional respect for each other, they were not friends outside the set. Isn’t it intriguing how sometimes reality differs from the stories we see on our screens?
During a 40th anniversary panel for the Golden Girls on June 18, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, producer Marsha Posner Williams stated that, during filming when the red light was on, there weren’t more professional people than those women. However, she added that when the cameras were off (red light was off), those two [women] couldn’t get along if they were placed in the same urn for cremation.
As a matter of fact, Marsha often served as a confidante for Bea during the entire seven-season span of the series, observing that the actress portraying Maude “would frequently phone me from home to share, ‘I just bumped into Betty at the market. I’m planning on writing her a letter.’
“I said, ‘Bea, just get over it for crying out loud,'” she continued. “‘Just get past it.'”
On their shared occasions, such language was hardly extraordinary between them. As Marsha put it, “I recall, during our visits to Bea’s house for dinner on a few occasions, the C-word would fly before even 30 seconds had passed since we walked in.
However, the producer of Mrs. Doubtfire wasn’t entirely clear about what sparked Betty and Bea’s prolonged disagreement initially, but she speculated that it contributed to the cancellation of the show, which had also featured the late Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux and Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo, in 1992.
Marsha mentioned that after a seven-year break, the show was set to resume. When the contracts expired, the producers approached the three main actresses – Estelle, Rue, and Betty – and all of them agreed to continue with the series. In simpler terms, the show was going to carry on because all three ladies consented to renew their contracts.
Bea, however, was not willing to sign another contract.
As a devoted admirer putting it in my own words, I’d say: “Bea firmly declared, ‘Absolutely not,’ which is why that captivating series never went on. You see, Betty had this peculiar habit of shattering the fourth wall mid-performance and addressing the live audience. This was something Bea found utterly displeasing.

In January 2024, Bobby, who is seen on the far left, clarified speculations about a supposed rift with Tan, as they were both in the center, following his departure from Queer Eye after an impressive run of eight seasons, which happened two months prior.
He assured Vanity Fair, “Tan and I are doing well,” he said. “There was an issue that arose, and it’s private between us. It doesn’t relate to the show in any way. It was a personal matter that had been developing—and to make things clear, it wasn’t romantic.
By March 2024, Tan found himself addressing claims that he attempted to get Jeremiah Brent instead of Bobby on the show “Queer Eye”.
He stated on Instagram that Netflix and the production companies went through a thorough casting process. He didn’t recommend his friend for the role. Instead, they secured the part because they were the most suitable candidate for it. However, he didn’t help them land the job by eliminating someone else.
In a December 2023 episode of her podcast “Let’s Be Clear,” Holly Marie Combs, Shannen’s former co-star on “Charmed,” claimed that Alyssa had demanded a production choice between herself and Shannen, an ultimatum which reportedly resulted in Shannen leaving the show in 2001.
In February 2024, Alyssa made a post on Instagram stating that she didn’t possess the authority to terminate anyone’s employment and that the recurrence of these old stories being shared by anyone is essentially rewriting history.
One day after, during a panel discussion at MegaCon Orlando, Shannen declared, “The account I’m familiar with as true isn’t being rewritten or distorted in any way.
Shannen passed away in July 2024 after a yearslong battle with cancer.
In September 2023, while engaged in a game titled Stir the Pot on TopMob News with her daughter Kelly Osbourne, Sharon expressed that the actress from That ’70s Show was the most impolite celebrity she had ever encountered. She labeled him as “incredibly rude” not once but four times and referred to him as a “naughty little boy” and a “wretched little creature.
He did not respond to her remarks publicly.
Approximately five years ago, Sharon confided in Larry King that when Ashton was a guest on The Talk in 2014, he exhibited an unfriendly demeanor towards her following her mistake in referring to him by name.
She remembered him asking, “‘Who are you? What have you accomplished in this field?'” To which she responded, “Listen, kid, you’re treading on dangerous ground. I can outmatch and outsmart you in ways you can’t imagine.” Essentially, she said, “You underestimate the situation, child.
In August 2022, Cassadee and Brittany, wife of country singer Jason Aldean, had a heated exchange following a post made by Brittany on Instagram Reel where she was applying makeup. The caption read, “I’d like to thank my parents for not altering my gender during my tomboy phase. I adore this feminine lifestyle.” This remark sparked a disagreement between Cassadee and Brittany.
In a TikTok challenge during the year 2022, JoJo Siwa labeled Candace Cameron Bure as the most uncourteous celebrity. She explained that she felt disregarded when Bure refused to take a photo with her on a red carpet. However, shortly after this comment, Bure apologized: “I’m sorry for breaking your 11-year-old heart. I didn’t take a picture with you. I feel terrible about it now, JoJo.
As a devoted admirer putting it in my own words, let me share: After making things right, time moved on, and lo and behold, I was curious to know Candace’s thoughts. Months down the line, she was posed a question about the Great American Family network, where she holds the position of chief creative officer. The query centered around whether they would cast same-sex couples as leads in holiday movies. Her response? A firm negative. She went on to express that the core values of Great American Family will continue to uphold traditional marriage.
JoJo, who publicly identified as part of the LGBTQ+ community last year, posted on Instagram that the actress’ remark was “disrespectful and painful towards an entire group of individuals.
In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed that Olivia Rodrigo had copied Hole’s album cover for a promotional photo without proper credit. Rodrigo responded with “I love you and live through this so much.” To which Courtney replied, “Olivia, you’re welcome! My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London. Message me for details! I can’t wait to read your note [winking face emoji].
In an episode of “Watch What Happens Live”, the actor from “Happy Days” was questioned about his strained relationship with the “Forrest Gump” actor during the filming of the 1989 movie “Turner & Hooch”.
For 13 days, I had been overseeing the movie production, but then I was summoned to Jeff Katzenberg’s office, where he told me, “Have all your things ready? Go home.” He communicated this to me.
It appears that Winkler found the dog, who was Hanks’ fellow actor, quite pleasant. In fact, he expressed it as follows: “We got along wonderfully, wonderfully with that dog. I adore that dog.
He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.
“You know what you did!”
Lovers of “The Hills” might recall that famous quote, spoken by Lauren in the season three opener. This heated conflict originated when Heidi began dating her current spouse, Spencer Pratt, and reached its zenith when Lauren alleged that Heidi and Spencer had spread a rumor about her making a sex tape with Jason Wahler.
After the release date of Fast and Furious 9 was postponed to April 2020, Tyrese criticized his co-star Dwayne Johnson on Instagram. On the same day, it was announced that a Fast and Furious spinoff featuring Dwayne and Jason Statham would be released in 2019, which led Tyrese to threaten to leave Fast 9 if Dwayne remained in the movie.
As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t keep my thoughts to myself any longer! I spilled the beans about the longstanding rift to the gracious Van Lathan on The Red Pill podcast, saying, “I still haven’t chatted with The Rock personally, but mark my words, we will have a heart-to-heart conversation.” I did manage to engage in a chat with his producing partner, but unfortunately, not with the man himself.
Tyrese admitted that he was the one who publicly expressed emotions on behalf of several associates linked with the franchise, while others kept quiet. He acknowledged it wasn’t a professional move and apologized for his actions.
No more bad blood here.
For quite some time, Taylor and Katy were involved in a long-standing dispute, with Taylor’s song “Bad Blood” apparently reflecting this conflict. The origin of the disagreement is said to stem from a backup dancer and conflicting tour schedules. However, the feud was seemingly resolved when Perry extended an olive branch – literally – before Taylor’s “Reputation Tour” commenced.
In a recent Instagram video, Taylor expressed, “Just moments ago, I discovered a real olive branch in my changing room. It holds such deep meaning for me.
Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”
For quite some time, rumors of a feud between co-stars Kim and SJP from the show “Sex and the City” had been avoided. However, these whispers resurfaced when Kim opted out of participating in a third movie and made certain remarks about her costar that sparked curiosity.
Andy Cohen inquired about Sarah Jessica Parker’s response when Kim Cattrall stated they were merely colleagues, not friends, during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live back in September 2017.
She expressed her feelings by saying, “I’m truly heartbroken. We had several conversations about it last week because what happened seemed very distressing to me. It doesn’t align with my memory of our shared experience.
Reflecting on our shared journey, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. The professional path we traversed over the years transformed into something deeply personal, shaping not just our careers, but our lives as well. It’s my hope that this bond, forged through time and shared experience, overshadows any recent discourse. Experiencing something so unique together is truly a privilege.
And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.
The legendary musicians have been involved in a long-standing dispute since the year 2004. During his acceptance speech for the Classic Songwriter Award at the Q Awards that year, Elton John expressed his disagreement to the audience, stating, “Madonna being hailed as the best live act? Absolutely not! Since when is miming on stage considered live? I apologize, but I firmly believe that anyone who mimes in public, especially when they charge around 75 pounds for a ticket, should be reprimanded.
Back in 2008, the actress who once played the lead on Grey’s Anatomy initiated a disagreement with the show’s creator. This was due to her decision to withdraw her name from Emmy Award nominations. She explained that she felt she hadn’t been given scripts worthy of receiving a nomination.
Later on, Shonda spoke candidly about Katherine’s choice during an interview with Oprah Winfrey on ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’ in 2012. She remarked, “It hurt a bit on one side and I wasn’t taken aback on the other. When someone reveals their true nature to you, believe them. I often live by that principle, and it has been beneficial for me.”
During the New York Fashion Week, a global sensation unfolded as Nicki and Cardi engaged in a heated dispute at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party. A month later, Cardi revealed what had sparked the argument with Nicki.
For some time, she’s been firing numerous jabs at me, Cardi explained in the Art Issue of W magazine. “We had talked twice previously, and reached an agreement. However, she persisted.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but feel that the genuine flame in their feud ignited when I noticed that Nicki seemed to have given a fleeting ‘like’ and then unliked a tweet, seemingly about my idol Cardi’s parenting abilities – a claim Nicki has since refuted.
Cardi B shared that she chose to prioritize her daughter over potentially earning millions from her Bruno Mars tour. She emphasized her devotion as a mother and found it incongruous for those without children to criticize her actions. She added that she would not expect another artist to be judged in a similar manner if they were encountered outside of a performance setting.
The disagreement between Kanye West and Taylor Swift initially ignited in 2009 during her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, when Kanye, known for his rap songs like “Stronger,” interrupted her moment on stage. Despite reconciling and forming a friendship years later, their bond was broken again in 2026 following the release of his song “Famous,” where he referenced Taylor in its lyrics.
On the eve of the Grammys in February 2025, Kanye made an adjustment to his Instagram account: he followed only Taylor. Without any additional explanation, this action went unacknowledged by the recipient, Taylor, and she did not issue a public response.
“I don’t know her.”
The conflict between Mariah and J.Lo has lasted for more than 15 years now. It kicked off when Mariah, often referred to as the Queen of Christmas, was interviewed about several singers. When asked about Jennifer, she simply stated that she wasn’t familiar with her.
