THPS 3 Artist on Being Cut From Remake: “I Dont Know Why It Had To Be Us”

As a dedicated fan of the legendary Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, I can’t help but appreciate the epic soundtracks that have always been an integral part of the gaming experience. The highly anticipated remake, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, promises to revive some of the original’s timeless tracks and introduce fresh tunes to potentially win our hearts all over again. Yet, it’s a bittersweet reality that some of those classic tracks won’t be making a comeback. Recently, one of the bands from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 voiced their disappointment at being excluded from the remake.

The band you’re referring to is Alien Ant Farm. Their song “Wish,” which was part of their 2001 album titled “ANThology” (styled as such), was initially included in the soundtrack for THPS 3. This track, along with “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead and “The Boy Who Destroyed the World” by AFI, is among the most iconic songs from the game. Regrettably, Alien Ant Farm was not included in the tracklist for the remake of THPS 3+4. In a conversation with BBC, band members Terry Corso and Dryden Mitchell shared their thoughts on being left out of the remake.

“Is it a bummer that we weren’t invited or they didn’t include us? Absolutely,” says Corso.

Corso added, “It’s clear they’re planning some changes for the upcoming releases, and if sacrifices must be made, so be it. However, I can’t help but wonder why we were the ones affected. Our track seemed to fit perfectly and performed quite well.

Mitchell explains, “Skating seems to have a bit of a punk vibe, but our band isn’t punk. However, it’s this difference that creates an interesting soundtrack.

Prior to its release, Activision and Iron Galaxy gradually unveiled the soundtrack for THPS 3+4 in stages. For those who are curious, you can find the complete playlist here. Yet, despite incorporating numerous tracks and suitable alternatives from musicians involved in the original games, enthusiasts of the skateboarding video game franchise were not content with the modifications. Even Tony Hawk, the “birdman,” acknowledged the negative reactions.

Hawk mentioned he selected diverse tracks from the same musicians found in the soundtrack of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4. He believes part of the appeal lies in the excitement of finding new songs, which is a major reason why these playlists became popular. So go ahead and listen, and have fun on this musical journey.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve joined countless others in expressing our disappointment with the evolution of THPS 3+4 on social media since its unveiling. A significant portion of the criticism levied at the game stems from its handling of content from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. Instead of reinstating the free skating design that characterized the original Career Mode, they’ve opted for time-based, goal-oriented runs, a shift that seems to have left many of us yearning for the classic gameplay experience we once knew and loved.

In THPS 4, it proved challenging to blend two distinct gameplay styles in one game. Nevertheless, the game primarily emphasizes short challenges, while also providing ample freedom to explore and do as you please. You’ll also encounter characters who will task you with missions, ensuring a mix of activities. While I acknowledge the concern about the balance, I believe everyone will be pleasantly surprised by the final product.

As a devoted skateboarding enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that starting July 11th, the iconic Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch (current gen), and PC. And guess what? Even the next-gen Nintendo Switch is joining the lineup! Can’t wait to grab my board and hit the streets!
