This week saw the launch of a new game on Xbox Game Pass that turned out to be a huge disappointment, while another day-one release for Xbox Game Pass became an immediate success. Interestingly, the latter falls under the premium tier of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, meaning only those with the highest tier can play it on its release day. Users on lower tiers might want to consider upgrading their subscriptions to enjoy this game on its launch date.
The game launching on Xbox Game Pass on its release day, Rematch by the French studio Slocap (creators of Sifu in 2022 and Absolver in 2017), is seeing a massive response with more than one million unique players within just 24 hours. Currently, it’s one of the most-played games on Xbox Game Pass, which undoubtedly contributes to this impressive player count.
Although Rematch is gaining a lot of attention, it’s not universally adored as evidenced by its Metacritic score of 76 and Steam user approval rating of 77%. However, it seems that frequent bugs and server problems are affecting these ratings significantly. It’s possible that once these issues are resolved, the current scores may not fully represent the game’s true quality and appeal among players.
It’s yet to be determined if Rematch can maintain its initial popularity long-term. If it does, it will require immediate resolution of server problems, as well as addressing bugs and performance issues. Additionally, ongoing post-launch content is crucial for keeping players hooked. For now, Rematch is one of the most anticipated Xbox Game Pass releases this year, joining notable titles such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Atomfall, Crime Scene Cleaner, and other successful Xbox Game Pass games from earlier in the year.
