Back in 1986, the original Highlander film graced cinema screens, prompting Queen’s anthem “Who Wants to Live Forever?”. Fast-forward to the movie lineup of 2025, and if I were to speculate, I’d say that anyone who had hoped for Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot would be eagerly waiting.
It appears that director Chad Stahelski’s vision won’t take too much longer to materialize, given that Russell Crowe has been cast in a significant role. The announcement by Collider reveals that Henry Cavill’s Kryptonian father from “Man of Steel” will portray Ramirez, another immortal character; a fitting choice even with the noticeable racial difference.
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I remember Sean Connery portraying Ramirez in the original “Highlander.” He was the mentor who guided Connor MacLeod through the ancient tradition of vanquishing other immortals until just one remained victorious, for there can be only one.
As Henry Cavill steps into the role previously held by Christopher Lambert as Connor, I find myself eagerly anticipating the chance to learn from the legendary gladiator, much like we did during our collaboration in Man of Steel. This potential return could even surpass the time we spent together, making it all the more intriguing to consider Russell Crowe’s potential involvement in this new series of beheadings.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that the buzz surrounding Highlander’s dedication to its lore has historically appealed to its enthusiastic lead. It’s true that such news often diverts attention from past budget issues that had caused the film to stall, only to be revived by Amazon-MGM Studios.
It’s quite intriguing to consider the possibility that the dialogue in the trailer for the 1986 movie “Highlander” might bear some resemblance to lines spoken by Sean Connery in Zack Snyder’s 2013 DC reboot, which could be either accurate or a mere coincidence. Feel free to compare and correct me if I’m mistaken.
If Chad Stahelski doesn’t at least think about Adam Lambert and Queen for the soundtrack of the Highlander reboot, it makes me wonder what the point is. If Russell Crowe ends up playing Ramirez, he and Henry Cavill have already demonstrated their appreciation for the original film, which strengthens my proposal that they’re the best choice to continue the “Princes of the Universe” legacy. I agree, don’t you?
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about the potential revival of “Highlander”. The production team seems determined to kickstart this project come fall, which means we might witness these eternal warriors grace our screens in 2026 or perhaps even 2027. But here’s a twist – if Mr. Cavill’s “Warhammer 40,000” adaptation manages to outpace it, the immortal saga could face a delay.
With two-thirds of our beloved characters already cast, one question lingers in my mind like a haunting melody: who on earth will embody the merciless Kurgan? I can’t wait for that answer!
