A fresh rumor hints that Sony’s next State of Play event might occur around mid-September. This gathering could potentially showcase a new title from Santa Monica Studio, creators of the God of War series. The rumor doesn’t explicitly mention a new God of War game, but given that the studio has only developed one non-God of War game (Kinetica in 2001), it seems likely this could be another installment in the God of War franchise.
According to industry insider Detective Seeds, who has provided accurate info in the past but also made some inaccurate predictions, there’s talk that PlayStation is preparing trailers for an extended ‘State of Play’ event. This rumor mentions Saros as one of the games being showcased, a title from Housemarque, creators of the recent PS5 release Returnal. The rumor hints at another new game coming from Santa Monica Studio as well.
According to the source, trailers for an upcoming event in the second half of September are being prepared by Playstation. It seems this State of Play will be extended, offering more insights into Saros, and potentially unveiling a project from Sony Santa Monica. The leaker does not anticipate a full-fledged showcase event until the release time of PS6.
In 2022, God of War Ragnarok was released, which means we’re approaching the point where news about the next mainline God of War game might surface. Given that four years separated the release of 2018’s God of War and God of War Ragnarok, it’s not unreasonable to expect a new installment soon. Although God of War Ragnarok received more post-launch support than its predecessor, there are strong whispers of a new game in the works – a 2.5 Metroidvania-style spin-off set in Ancient Greece. If a new God of War game is unveiled in September, it could very well be this one.
As a gamer myself, I always keep an open mind when hearing about game releases or updates. Everything I’ve read here is just buzz, and even if it checks out, things can change quickly and make the info obsolete. For instance, PlayStation State of Play dates aren’t usually finalized until they’re on the brink of happening. So, take everything you hear with a pinch of salt!
