The Simpsons intends to continue airing new episodes up until its fortieth season, implying that the characters from Springfield may persist beyond this significant landmark. With Homer, Marge, Maggie, Bart, and Lisa having a wealth of stories accumulated over decades, it’s logical for some of their secondary characters to take center stage. In a recent interview with the showrunner Matt Selman, it was disclosed that a Springfield politician is set to have more details about his past unveiled.
During an interview on the podcast That Shelf, Selman revealed that Season 37 of the show will delve deeper into Mayor Quimby’s past. Excited to share a laugh about the upcoming plotline, Selman teased, “Godfather tropes are so overused, but we do have an epic Godfather II-style episode coming up that tells the tale of the Quimby family in a back-and-forth, present and past narrative. In a nod to a scene from The Godfather II, there’s a moment where someone commits a murder with a sandwich and then meticulously discards the sandwich remnants.

More Changes For Springfield
In addition to exploring more about Quimby’s background, the upcoming seasons of The Simpsons are considering a shift that could upset some animation enthusiasts. As of now, it looks like future seasons will air seventeen episodes instead of the usual twenty-two, according to the showrunners at the recent Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Even creator Matt Groening himself confirmed this change, explaining that it was made due to the show’s release of original projects on Disney+ in addition to those on Fox.
Previously, we conducted 22 productions per year. However, for the upcoming four seasons, we’ll be reducing it to 17 per year. Of these, 15 will debut in America on Fox, and there will be two exclusive releases on Disney+. Despite the change, it remains a full-time commitment.
Season 37 Plans
In another interview, Selman shared intriguing details about the upcoming season of The Simpsons: “This time around, we’re exploring the depths of our supporting characters more than ever. We’ve got an episode focused on Chalmers transforming into a guru in the manosphere, peddling male beauty products. There’s also a fantastic show centered around Lisa and Marge delving into the trendy culture of thrifting that’s all the rage among young people. We delve deeper into Professor Frink’s emotional past, which promises to be quite exciting. And we have an episode that creatively uncovers the Quimby family’s backstory.
