Over the past year, I’ve noticed some significant shifts in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+, with numerous beloved series wrapping up their stories. Among the latest to bid adieu is Akira Amano’s quirky detective series, “Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective“. Amano, a renowned mangaka, is the brilliant mind behind hit series like “elDLIVE ” and “Katekyou Hitman Reborn!“, as well as the original creator of the critically acclaimed series “Psycho-Pass“. This thrilling tale follows the escapades of Ron Kamonohashi, an eccentric yet brilliant detective, and Totomaru Isshiki, a novice police officer. Despite his extraordinary talents, Ron’s detective license was revoked five years ago due to being framed for a murder spree.
Initially, Ron collaborates with Totomaru following the latter’s request for assistance on a challenging case. As they work together, cases pile up and their bond deepens. In the process, Totomaru discovers Ron’s enigmatic past and extraordinary abilities. Matters escalate when the individuals who falsely accused Ron reappear as threats. Now, the pair embark on a mission to unveil the truth behind the tragedy that occurred five years ago, aiming to bring the real culprits to justice. This captivating drama series debuted in 2020, airing weekly episodes, and was later adapted into an anime in 2023. The anime launched a second season in 2024; however, a third installment has yet to be officially announced.

On June 22nd, Shonen Jump+ published the latest installment and then went on a one-week hiatus before concluding the series. Chapter 170, marking the series finale, is scheduled for release on July 5th, 2025, as per Eastern Standard Time Zone. The final storyline of this series, titled “The Case of the Time Island Serial Murders,” presents a serial killing mystery masterminded by Alice to test Ron’s abilities. She confines him along with Totomaru, Amamiya, and various other characters on Time Island, an undiscovered island that boasts eternal summer, which has remained hidden from everyone.
In December 2024, the final part of the story began in Chapter 152 and will conclude with the next chapter. The latest installment ended on a dramatic note as Alice announced Ron as the winner, following which she revealed she was going to die soon and left. Pursuing her, Ron was left behind as an air raid struck near the island, leaving everyone’s survival uncertain. Given Chapter 169, it seems we are heading towards an underwhelming conclusion, which is surprising given that this series has been running for quite some time.
