Splitgate 2 Developer Lays Off A “Small Group of Valued Team Members”

1047 Games, the developers behind Splitgate 2, have recently declared job cuts, characterizing the affected employees as a “select” group who hold significant value to their team, according to their official LinkedIn post.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m personally involved in refining the gameplay of Splitgate 2 based on your valuable feedback. We’re reallocating resources to ensure we create an outstanding gaming experience just for you. It’s tough to see some team members move on, but rest assured, we’re actively helping them find new opportunities within and beyond our gaming universe.

Co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian of the studio are choosing to forgo their salaries as they commit to executing the next phase of the project. On June 6th, during the Summer Game Fest showcase, Splitgate 2 was unveiled alongside a much-anticipated surprise, Splitgate: Battle Royale, which the studio had heavily promoted prior to its launch.

Initially, there were issues with the free-to-play competitive shooter even before its official release. When the open beta was launched, players voiced their disapproval about several aspects such as changes to portal functionality, the introduction of Factions and abilities, and excessive monetization that featured $80 bundles. Although the monetization has been moderated to some extent, its rating on Steam remains “Mixed”, with only 61% of the 16,410 user reviews suggesting it as a recommendation.

1047 Games is persistently striving to bring you more exciting features, despite recent staff reductions. They remain dedicated to developing this game for the long term. So far, they have confirmed plans to introduce new weapons, game modes, maps, events, and skins in the future.

The sequel to “Splitgate” is now playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, as well as personal computers. Check out our review of the game (where we awarded it a score of seven out of ten) by following this link.
