Atlus JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio Tags on 1 Million Sales Since Launch

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share the excitement over the phenomenal success of ReFantazio! On its launch day, it managed to sell an incredible one million units. Now, there’s quite a buzz among us fans discussing if that two million sales mark is simply impressive or downright extraordinary. SEGA officially confirmed during a recent management meeting presentation (which has since been taken down) that the highly-acclaimed Atlus RPG had hit this milestone by March 31st, 2025!

Since the game was launched on October 11th, 2024, it’s notable that within approximately six months, it managed to double its initial day sales. This could be interpreted as a sign of success given it’s a new intellectual property, or perhaps it falls short when you consider the massive anticipation and excitement surrounding it.

Contrary to expectations, Final Fantasy 16, which belongs to a long-standing series, was seen as a letdown following its sale of over three million copies within a week on one platform alone. In stark contrast, the relatively unheard-of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a fresh intellectual property from an up-and-coming studio, managed to sell 3.3 million units in less than a month and a half.

Indeed, each game carries its own financial goals and aspirations, and since Sega mentioned this achievement during a management meeting, it’s reasonable to presume they are pleased with the outcomes.
