The highly popular crime drama, MobLand starring Tom Hardy, has been given the green light for another season on Paramount+ – a decision made following its impressive run as the platform’s second highest-viewed series to date.
Based on the data provided by the platform, a grand total of 26 million viewers have tuned in to the show so far. Paramount’s co-CEO Chris McCarthy has hailed it as a tremendous success, expressing his joy and announcing the approval for a second season.
In addition to Hardy, the high-profile show featured prominent characters played by Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Paddy Considine. Notably, Guy Ritchie served as an executive producer and helmed the directing duties for the initial two episodes during its premiere season.
Simultaneously, Top Boy was developed by writer Ronan Bennett (from Top Boy), working together with renowned playwright and screenwriter Jez Butterworth on the scripts.
For me, the world of television was unfamiliar and I initially hesitated to fully dive in. However, Chris, David [Glasser], and the teams at Paramount and 101 Studios managed to shift my perspective with their daring creative approach and keen strategic thinking, which led to my decision to renew.” – Butterworth’s statement about the renewal.
He mentioned that the initial phase was nothing less than exhilarating, and expressed his enthusiasm for delving into the second series of MobLand.
The narrative unfolds around two rival criminal dynasties locked in a fierce power struggle, a conflict that could potentially bring down kingdoms and destroy numerous lives, according to the official description.
Standing amidst the conflict is Harry Da Souza, a resourceful intermediary well-versed in understanding whose side to support when rival powers clash.
Besides the previously mentioned actors, there are significant parts for Joanne Froggatt (from Downton Abbey), Lara Pulver (Da Vinci’s Demons), Anson Boon (Pistol), Mandeep Dhillon (CSI: Vegas), Jasmine Jobson and Geoff Bell (both from Top Boy), Daniel Betts (Fate: The Winx Saga), Lisa Dwan (Blackshore) and Emily Barber (Industry).
It’s quite evident that the show has attracted viewers, and it’ll be intriguing to observe its progress as a second season has been announced.
