Enthusiasts of the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune” might spend countless hours discussing, distinguishing, and arguing over the characteristics of Ryan Seacrest versus the legendary game show host Pat Sajak. However, there’s one noticeable feature in the modern version that stands out more frequently. Contestants often exhibit a physical interaction with Seacrest, and he shared his thoughts on this phenomenon.
Ryan Seacrest’s hosting of a well-loved game show has generally been seen as successful, marking one year on the show in September 2025 according to the television schedule. In an interview with THR, Seacrest shared his favorite aspect of the job, while admitting that it hasn’t been without its challenges. He stated:
“I’ve really enjoyed my time hosting this game show, but let’s be honest, it hasn’t always been easy.
I really enjoy conducting interviews with the competitors, and sometimes things can get quite lively! Perhaps it’s because of my stature, but the male contestants often toss me around. It gives me a moment of panic thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, here it comes!’ (Laughs.) Just a heads up, I bruise rather quickly.
Although you may prefer Pat Sajak as the host of Wheel of Fortune, it’s important to note that his counterpart, Ryan Seacrest, has faced unique challenges due to overzealous contestants. Unlike Sajak, Seacrest, who stands at 5 feet 8 inches, has had to deal with incidents such as being put in a headlock by a former professional wrestler and being thrown to the ground. These instances can be seen in the video below:
It’s worth mentioning that some of Ryan Seacrest’s falls are due to his own actions. Known for the infamous video where he tumbled out of his chair on Live with Kelly and Ryan, the host experienced another hard fall while pursuing a wheel of cheese in April. Additionally, an amusing clip from Seacrest and Vanna White’s ski trip showed the host crashing on the slopes, which may have (though likely did not) lead to his co-host letting out an unexpected expletive during the Wheel of Fortune broadcast.
Apart from Raygun’s viral display at the 2024 Paris Summer Games, we can’t overlook the moment he intentionally fell to the ground in front of the giant wheel, demonstrating what seemed like poor breakdancing skills. Raygun, you’ve certainly changed the face of the Olympics forever.
To be fair, collapsing out of sheer excitement isn’t quite the same as getting tackled unexpectedly by a stranger during a game show, but it seems like the host took it all in stride. Ryan Seacrest mentioned that interacting with the contestants was his preferred aspect of the job – an enjoyment I can certainly understand, not to mention the thrill of handing out cash prizes, which I assume is also a favorite for Pat Sajak and Vanna White.
If you’ve missed out on previous instances of Ryan Seacrest’s takedowns and don’t have them saved, it’s a problem that’s about to be solved. When Wheel of Fortune comes back for Season 43 this fall, it will be streamable the next day with either a Hulu or Peacock subscription. (Fans who are frustrated by Jeopardy! being preempted by news, sports, or weather can also catch the quiz show on these same platforms.)
From now on, you can rest assured that you’ll never again miss instances of Ryan Seacrest being treated unfairly. Keep an eye out for the upcoming premiere date.
