Following the unveiling of “Slitterhead” last year, renowned horror game creator Keiichi Toyama – best known for crafting timeless franchises such as “Silent Hill” and “Siren” – has already commenced development on a brand-new project. In an exclusive chat with Famitsu (via Automaton Media), Toyama touched upon numerous subjects while dropping hints about his upcoming game.
Toyama shared that while he can’t disclose specifics just yet, work has commenced on our upcoming project. Originally, our goal was to create a versatile studio where we could explore various concepts, such as nurturing fresh ideas from younger creators and even delving into more playful endeavors.
Once more, it’s time for us as a team to give our best and demonstrate that we can handle this project. Right now, we’re diligently working towards achieving that goal, but keep in mind that we’re only just getting started. I think that we’ll be ready to share more information [regarding the new game] further down the line.
Regarding Slitterhead, Toyama pointed out that it became a “beloved choice among fans,” even though it didn’t achieve much mainstream acclaim. However, he made it clear that Bokeh Game Studio wasn’t aiming for commercial success with this game. Instead, Toyama expressed satisfaction with how the game turned out overall.
Regarding our future, it’s a subject that can get tricky, especially with my advancing years in mind. Yet, I am convinced that it’s time for me to hand over the reins to the upcoming generation. As a studio, we’re currently navigating towards our objective, not quite there yet.
In 2024, Slitterhead made its debut on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This game is centered around body horror aesthetics, creating a chilling environment alongside intense action sequences. A trailer unveiled some of the terrifying creatures players would encounter mere months before the game’s release.
Prior to its release, it was initially conceived that Slitterhead would be an open-world game by Toyama. Due to financial constraints, however, the game’s design was altered, resulting in the structured missions we experienced instead.
As a player immersed in this game’s world, we initially envisioned an expansive open-world landscape for our adventure. However, given our financial constraints, it proved unrealistic to achieve that dream. Luckily, our choice to confine the missions and narrative flow within defined boundaries has proven beneficial, providing a focused and engaging experience as I journey through this captivating storyline.
If you’re curious about what makes Slitterhead a beloved game among some gamers, a demo for this horror title became available in December. This free demo offers the initial chapter of the game, and if players choose to purchase the full version later, they can continue from their save point in the demo.
