Beginner’s Guide | Abiotic Factor 1.0

Pick Your Profession and Traits

One of the initial steps in this game involves personalizing your character by choosing their occupation and characteristics. The job selection influences your beginning Skill levels, whereas the characteristics provide you with ongoing benefits.

In terms of choosing a career path, there’s quite a bit of flexibility as you can select from numerous options without making a wrong choice! If you find yourself struggling to decide, I’d recommend considering roles such as a Lab Assistant or Summer Intern. These positions offer the most starting points for Traits, which could give you a strong foundation to build your career upon.

In terms of Characteristics, you can choose a mix of both advantageous and disadvantageous ones. The negative traits will present additional obstacles for you, but they will also award you extra Trait Points. These extra points enable you to select more beneficial traits, which grant you positive passive benefits. Here are some of our suggested Characteristics:

1. Perseverance: You have an unyielding determination and tenacity, allowing you to persist through even the most challenging circumstances.
2. Charisma: Your natural charm and magnetism make it easy for you to win people over and influence those around you.
3. Resourcefulness: You have a knack for finding solutions in unexpected places, making you adept at solving problems quickly and efficiently.
4. Quick Temper: Your anger flares up easily, often leading to outbursts that can strain relationships or create unnecessary conflict.
5. Clumsy: Despite your best efforts, you tend to trip over your own feet and drop things more often than the average person.
6. Shy: You are hesitant and reserved in social situations, making it difficult for you to express yourself effectively and build strong connections with others.
7. Impulsive: You make decisions without much thought or consideration, often leading to unintended consequences that can cause problems down the line.
8. Loyalty: Once someone has earned your trust, you are fiercely loyal and will stand by their side through thick and thin.
9. Obsessive: You have a tendency to fixate on certain ideas or tasks, making it difficult for you to let go and move on to other things.
10. Short-tempered: Your anger can be triggered easily, causing you to react quickly and sometimes harshly in situations that require patience and calmness.

  • Wrinkly Brainmeat – Fairly cheap and boosts all of your XP gains by 20%.
  • Hobbyist Chef – It only costs 2 points and makes your Cooking skill level up twice as fast. This is an extremely important skill, and it’s also annoying to level up normally, so this Trait is a huge help.
  • Inconspicuous – Makes it easier to avoid enemies, always welcome.
  • Night Owl – You get 50% less tired, making it so you require rest a lot less often.
  • Fanny Pack – Costs a whopping 10 points, but it makes inventory management a lot easier. You get 2 permanent extra hotbar slots. Worth noting hotbar slots are easier to access, reduce items’ weight by 25%, and aren’t lost on death.

As I progress through this game, I’ve got the freedom to boost my skills like stealth or cooking, but once I’ve chosen a profession or traits, those decisions are set in stone – no turning back mid-adventure!

Take Your Time in the Starting Area

In the beginning of the game, time remains stationary. This might seem basic, but it gives you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the game without any pressure from a day-night cycle yet. However, remember that you’ll still need to manage your physical needs as we’ll explain later on.

Time progresses exclusively after you initiate interaction, namely when you open the door for Jager and engage with the security officer.

Take note, all power sources will be deactivated at night, including lights. You’ll receive a warning at 8:00 PM and the shutdown occurs at 9:00 PM. It’s crucial to move to a secure location beforehand to avoid being outside in the dark, where fearsome creatures roam! However, please remember that this won’t happen during the initial phase.

Check the E-Mails and Pick Up Everything

As you wander around the facility, you’ll find numerous computer terminals that you can interact with. Typically, these allow you to access emails and other data logs. Reading through these is a great way to discover new crafting recipes, so be sure to check out everything you come across.

As a gamer, I always make it a point to pick up any items in the game that flash yellow text suggesting “pick up to discover new knowledge.” These finds often unlock new recipes, expanding my gaming tools and resources. Remembering this simple yet crucial tip can greatly enhance your gaming experience!

Manage Your Needs

In any beginner’s journey through an Abiotic Factor game, it’s crucial to focus on your character’s essential requirements – after all, they are vital for survival! To review these needs, simply press the X key to open the status menu.

As a game enthusiast, keeping myself in peak form is crucial! I’ve got to fill up on food to quell my hunger, keep hydrated by managing my thirst, get some rest to ease my fatigue, and don’t forget about those regular breaks to relieve that pressing “urgency.” Of course, maintaining good health is a must, whether it’s ensuring I meet my needs or avoiding damage in combat. Balancing all these aspects is key to staying at the top of my game!

As you venture around, keep in mind any locations that could assist in addressing your requirements. For instance, restrooms are ideal for relieving discomfort and you might also find it convenient to quench your thirst by using the taps there.

Using an action like sitting on the floor with the ‘B’ key can be incredibly important since it helps conserve energy when you’re about to faint. It might not offer the same benefits as actual sleep, but it’s certainly useful information!

Set Up a Base

As a budding explorer in the world of Abiotic Factor, I’d highly recommend setting up your own base as a crucial first step towards truly thriving. This is the foundation upon which you’ll build your survival skills!

Simply put, all you really need to establish a base is a Crafting Bench. Just set it up and connect it to any available power source to create a secure sanctuary. This fortified space will keep enemies at bay over an extended distance compared to what the game suggests. The game indicates that this area is safe by displaying the “Home Sweet Home” status buff on your screen.

Once you’ve established your Crafting Station, you can begin enhancing your living space with additional comforts like resting areas and cooking spots. For instance, you might consider setting up couches, some of which can be collected for later use within your base. These multi-functional items can serve as both a place to rest and also as barricades to deter enemies.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that you can craft portable energy storage devices later in the game. These are useful for saving energy during daytime hours, ensuring your base remains powered even during the dark nights. This is particularly beneficial for maintaining visibility and keeping operational any stations that require power at night. Prioritize learning to craft these as soon as they become accessible.

Here ends our initial tutorial on Abiotic Factors. As you embark on this challenging occupation, there’s much more knowledge to acquire. However, these tips should provide a smoother start for you.
