A Beast Quest Animated Series Is In the Works

As a child of the 2000s, I can vividly recall the thrill of diving into the magical world of Avantia through the pages of “Beast Quest” books. The tales of Tom, Elenna, and their brave encounters with mythical beasts were an integral part of my early reading journey.

As a hardcore gamer who’s always on the lookout for new adventures, I can’t contain my excitement! The beloved Beast Quest saga, which has captivated countless imaginations of kids like me, is finally coming to life as an animated series. Although Adam Blade is actually a pen name for many talented writers, it doesn’t change the fact that the first book, Ferno, was released in 2007 and since then, over 140 main books have been published, along with more than 20 special edition stories and other spin-offs. It’s been an incredible journey for 17 years, and I can hardly wait to see how the animated series brings this enchanting world to life!

According to Variety, the upcoming animated series is being created by Superprod and Coolabi. Notably, Superprod Group specializes in creating a range of children’s animated TV shows and films, such as Batwheels, Spirit Rangers, and My Life in Versailles. On the other hand, Coolabi Group is a multimedia corporation that produces content across various platforms for intellectual properties like Clangers, Bagpuss, and Giraffes Can’t Dance.

In this animated adaptation, the storyline closely mirrors the main narrative found within the books. Characters Tom and Elenna are assigned a dangerous assignment to safeguard the realm of Avantia, which is gradually succumbing to the evil sorcerer Malvel’s influence. Employing his ominous magic, Malvel is causing corruption among the powerful creatures inhabiting the land, which Tom and Elenna must vanquish during their quest. The Beast Quest novels functioned as a series of interconnected tales, with each book featuring a self-contained story that took place within the same universe, albeit with a loosely connected overall plot.

In the initial novel titled “Ferno“, readers were acquainted with Tom and the realm of Avantia for the first time. The protagonist, who was an unexpected hero, was assigned to probe into the matter of the dragon named Ferno. Originally a guardian of the Winding River, the Southern Kingdom’s sole source of water, Ferno had been tainted by Malvel and started causing destruction in nearby settlements.

The show titled “Beast Quest” is currently in its preliminary stages, and it’s yet to be decided how many episodes each season will encompass. However, what we do know is that each episode will not surpass 30 minutes. What makes this interesting is that the show will employ a combination of CG (Computer-Generated) and traditional animation techniques, with a distinctive visual style specifically crafted for this intellectual property.

Alexi Wheeler from Wheel in Motion, one of Superprod’s subsidiaries, shared their enthusiasm about animating the Beast Quest intellectual property. “This is a well-loved brand full of storytelling possibilities,” Wheeler stated, further adding, “Its fast-paced narrative and richly imaginative world of creatures make us certain that the animated series will spark the creativity of a fresh wave of viewers, much like the books have done for close to two decades.

The CEO of The Coolabi Group, Jeremy Banks, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming project. He stated, “Beast Quest has remained a powerful impact on children since its initial release about two decades ago. We’re eager to introduce this beloved series to screens and devices worldwide.

The magical realm in Beast Quest draws influence from timeless fantasy works such as J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings,” C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia,” and Terry Pratchett’s “Discworld.” These books are frequently viewed as an introduction for young readers to the captivating world of fantasy literature.

As of now, no specific launch date for the next installment of the Beast Quest series has been revealed. However, with more than 160 books in the collection, if handled skillfully, Beast Quest could potentially maintain its position as a popular children’s fantasy series for an extended period.
