A Beloved Christmas Classic Won’t Air on TV in 2024

As a long-time fan of holiday specials, especially the beloved Frosty the Snowman franchise, I must say this year has left me feeling rather chilly. The absence of Frosty Returns from TV and streaming platforms is like a missing carrot on the top of my Rudolph’s nose!

Don’t miss your chance, as Frosty Returns won’t be shown on TV this year. Since its debut on network TV in 1995, CBS has been airing the 1993 animated special based on the video, usually following the annual screenings of the classic Frosty the Snowman from 1969. This year, the original with Jimmy Durante’s narration will appear on a different network, but without Frosty Returns – NBC has secured the rights to the Rankin/Bass specials including Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, leaving Frosty Returns out in the open.

Produced by CBS Entertainment Productions and Lorne Michaels, who also produces Saturday Night Live through his company Broadway Video, Frosty Returns was a regular part of CBS’s holiday programming. This year, the network’s selection of holiday programs is limited. The offerings consist of holiday-themed episodes of Matlock, The Equalizer, NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and a one-hour Ghostmas Special.

In 2024, you won’t be able to catch Frosty Returns on TV or any streaming platform such as Prime Video, Fandango at Home (previously known as Vudu), or Apple TV. Your only option this year is to watch it on DVD or Blu-ray. Keep reading to discover where you can stream Frosty the Snowman and other Frosty specials instead:
