A Black Panther Connection Lets Captain America Face Red Hulk in Brave New World

As a seasoned movie buff with over three decades of Marvel Cinematic Universe under my belt, I must say that the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World has me intrigued and slightly apprehensive. The prospect of Sam Wilson, our beloved Falcon-turned-Captain America, squaring off against the mighty Red Hulk is an exhilarating one, but it’s also a daunting challenge.

A fresh tidbit about “Captain America: Brave New World” is sparking curiosity among Marvel enthusiasts regarding the movie’s central question: how might Sam Wilson/Falcon’s Captain America possibly go up against a formidable opponent like the Red Hulk? The previews for “Captain America 4” hint at Sam (Anthony Mackie) squaring off against Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk (Harrison Ford), portraying this as a significant showdown in the movie, and also suggesting some innovative suit technology that will protect Sam from being destroyed during the fight.

As stated by veteran Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore, the creators of Brave New World spent considerable effort determining the best approach to convince fans that a Captain America could exist without the influence of the Super Soldier Serum in his system.

Once we made up our minds about the story to be told, it became clear that there was a significant challenge ahead,” Moore clarified to Entertainment Weekly. Dan Cox, the visual effects supervisor from Weta who worked on the film, pointed out that Sam doesn’t fit well in the high-powered world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: “When he gets hit, his head will likely fly off.

Moore demonstrates how Sam Wilson can stand tall as Captain America by drawing upon his work from another significant franchise, Black Panther. The advanced nation of Wakanda and its precious mineral, Vibranium, will empower Sam to confront Red Hulk without suffering serious injuries – either a cast or a fatal blow.

According to Moore, there’s a hint that Vibranium might no longer be the uncontested source of technological dominance in the MCU, as power dynamics shift. The new Captain America will find Vibranium only partially effective against threats, as Moore pointed out, “It’s ‘somewhat’ protective because it’s facing the Red Hulk.” He added that while they want to ensure the movie remains authentic, equipping Sam for survival differs from equipping him for victory.

That’s some surgical producer-speak right there. Reading between the lines: Moore is seemingly hinting at how the initial meeting between Sam Wilson/Captain America and Red Hulk will turn out. That presumably entails Sam getting thrashed pretty hard but ultimately surviving the fight, which would be a major feat for a non-enhanced human being (suit or not). MCU fans were impressed by preview scenes that show Sam using his suit to cut through a car Red Hulk throws at him – but as soon as the raging brute lands a direct hit (or one of those Loki-style slams) it seems like Sam will be taken out of the fight pretty quickly.

Theory: Sam Wilson Will Level Up With New Captain America Adamantium Gear

Marvel fans have been pondering the inclusion of the crucial metal Adamantium in “Captain America 4” and whether it is linked to the “Brave New World” subtitle as a potential MacGuffin. Previews suggest that Sam will retrieve an Adamantium sample from the deceased Celestial, Tiamut the Communicator (as seen in “Eternals”). Given Marvel Cinematic Universe history, it’s likely that Captain America: Brave New World will necessitate an upgrade to Sam’s Adamantium suit for him to effectively battle opponents such as Red Hulk and The Leader.

Obtaining an Adamantium flight suit would significantly enhance Sam’s armor, giving him Iron Man-like upgrades and making him one of the strongest warriors within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Should he also acquire an Adamantium shield to match his suit, he’d possess a versatile weapon that could potentially penetrate Hulk’s skin. This newfound strength might lead Sam into conflict with a Canadian operative armed with his own Adamantium armor – similar to Wolverine.

“Captain America: A Bold New Era” is helmed by director Julius Onah, penned by screenwriters Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton. Producers Kevin Feige and Nate Moore oversee the project. In the lead roles are Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Danny Ramirez portraying Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, Carl Lumbay as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Giancarlo Esposito playing Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, and Tim Blake Nelson appearing as Samuel Sterns/The Leader. The film is slated for a theatrical release on Valentine’s Day, 2025.
