Despite numerous fantasy series thriving on television screens, like The Lord of the Rings and George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire world, one earlier announced fantasy adaptation is not expected to debut.
In the year 2021, news broke out that Disney’s 20th Television was planning to adapt Sarah J. Maas’s widely-loved romantic fantasy series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, for streaming on Hulu (with likely distribution on Disney Plus in the UK and other regions as well).
Unfortunately, the project is no longer being worked on, as Disney will relinquish the book rights come late summer 2025.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’ve learned from reliable sources that I, myself, am exploring the possibility of transferring the adaptation rights for the series to a new studio and streaming platform once the current option expires, as reported by Variety.

It appears that the collaboration between author James S. A. Corey (Maas) and Ronald D. Moore (creator of Outlander) for the Hulu adaptation didn’t come to fruition as planned.
In November 2023, Moore shared with TVLine that the series was “still being worked on”. He mentioned they had drafted some scripts and were simply waiting. Moore suggested that everyone involved seems to be on standby, awaiting actors before significant progress can be made, but for now, it’s still in the development phase.
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but share my excitement over Sarah J. Maas’ enchanting “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series. So far, it consists of five captivating novels that have left me spellbound, with a sixth book on the horizon!
The narrative unfolds the journey of Feyre Archeron, a 19-year-old girl, through the magical realms of Prythian. Along this journey, she encounters a passionate romance and engages in intense conflicts.
Besides wrapping up his work on Outlander, slated for its final season soon, Moore is also widely recognized for jointly creating the alternate history/sci-fi series For All Mankind. This series will carry on with its fifth season and is set to introduce a spin-off on Apple TV+ as well.
