As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the new look for Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in Birds of Prey #12 is nothing short of exhilarating! The lime green and white supersuit adorned with the Oracle symbol truly encapsulates her role as the tech-savvy heroine.
In the latest issue #12 of Birds of Prey, penned by Kelly Thompson, Javier Pina, Sophie Campbell, Gavin Guidry, Jordie Bellaire, and Clayton Cowles, one of DC‘s renowned heroines undergoes a dramatic transformation. The storyline finds the Birds struggling within a mutable pocket dimension controlled by the formidable Maia. To gain an advantage, they assign Sin to envision a whimsical world for the dimension to morph into. However, this decision leads to a surge of cartoonish violence, adding to their troubles. On a positive note, this new environment enables them to more effectively rescue Barbara Gordon, who has been isolated for numerous issues.
As a devoted fan, I was thrilled to see Barbara back with the team, sporting an all-new outfit tailored to her Oracle persona. The vibrant lime green and white supersuit, adorned with a cape and the distinctive Oracle symbol, marked her debut as Oracle in the primary continuity. Earlier, she had opted for a lime green tracksuit while embodying her hacker role, and donned a costume in the alternate Future State timeline. This latest ensemble truly solidified her status as a superhero within our main storyline.
What Is Birds of Prey #12 About?
Nothing’s ever adorable (or lethal) quite like EXTRA-DIMENSIONAL DISASTERS! The Birds of Prey are in for an unforeseen, amusing yet violent surprise as their efforts to manage the portal dimension go awry. Meanwhile, Oracle is making headway with her escape plan, albeit with a tad too much enthusiasm from certain parties. Cassandra Cain has come up with a brilliant idea.
As a gamer, I’ve been yearning to craft the world of “Birds of Prey” since I first stumbled upon it. Many of my Marvel stories have been led by women, and I’d usually expand their supporting casts, which often consisted of other females. So, even when I wasn’t penning all-female teams like Birds of Prey, I was essentially preparing for this moment. To be able to write it now, on the flagship title, is a dream come true. And to collaborate with Leo and Jordie? That’s something I never dared to imagine – fearing that such dreams might jinx their realization!
Birds of Prey #12 is now available wherever comics are sold.
