A G.I. Joe Fan Favorite Just Gave Their Life for the Team’s Very First Mission

As a longtime fan of G.I. Joe, I must say that issue #1 delivered quite a punch! The action was fast-paced and intense, with the Joes facing off against Cobra in a fiery battle reminiscent of my own backyard fights as a kid using sticks and toy guns.

In the debut issue of G.I. Joe, Duke’s squad received their inaugural assignment, which proved to be far from simple. Initially, they believed it was a routine security job, but matters soon took a turn for the worse, transforming into an intense gunfight. The Joes found themselves at a clear disadvantage in terms of numbers and firepower due to Destro’s advanced Energon-powered weaponry. As the situation began to deteriorate, a beloved character made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the team completed their mission successfully. Despite being just the first issue, G.I. Joe has already lost one team member, and our detailed analysis of the spoilers is provided below.

The Joe team, fresh off their formation, embarks on their initial mission. The assignment, fortunately, seems straightforward. They’re tasked with moving high-tech Transformer components from a recent crash site to a secure research facility, due to a series of thefts at various weapons and advanced technology facilities, including M.A.R.S Industries. Their goal is to ensure the safety of the facility and the technology being researched during this transportation process.

Essentially, Cobra Commander and Destro share an identical objective concerning Cobra – they intend to infiltrate a specific facility and seize technology laced with Energon. Since they can trace the Energon, the task appears straightforward for them – enter, grab the tech, and exit. Unbeknownst to either party, their paths are now converging toward a potential confrontation.

Complete Chaos

The conflict initiates as a Cobra F.A.N.G unleashes a barrage of gunfire, followed by an escalation in intensity. Duke jumps out a window in an attempt to neutralize it. Inside the facility, events deteriorate further when a grenade decimates a portion of the team, paving the way for Vipers to advance with their enhanced weaponry. The Joes are now under attack by actual lasers as Cover Girl and Clutch race to transport the technology out before the Vipers can seize it.

Regrettably, the Vipers manage to close in, but Rock ‘N Roll steps in with counterattacks aimed at distracting them temporarily. However, he’s caught and severely punched by multiple soldiers after a struggle, leaving him incapacitated. Meanwhile, Clutch and Cover Girl find themselves trapped without an escape route.

Heroic Sacrifice

In the heat of the game, I assure Duke, “Fret not, buddy. I’ve taken my fair share of bullets. This light show won’t phase me.” From my F.A.N.G base, Duke watches as I storm towards a pair of armed Vipers. The last frame reveals those Vipers blasting me point-blank with at least eight shots. Given the artwork, it seems like this Joe’s life ends in our debut mission.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel the weight of this situation as it unfolds. It’s clear that the team’s future is about to take a significant turn, though right now, they’re barely able to grasp it due to Cobra being on the brink of snatching the technology they’ve been tasked with safeguarding. If by some miracle they all manage to escape this ordeal, they’ll be left with a heavy burden to carry following the loss of their cherished teammate, who was not only a key player but also one of the most admired individuals within the group.
