A Game of Thrones Star Narrates Civilization 7

As a long-time Civilization fan with countless hours spent crafting empires and conquering continents, the announcement of Civilization 7 has filled me with unbridled excitement! The addition of Gwendoline Christie as the game’s narrator is a brilliant move by Firaxis, bringing star power to this already-beloved franchise.

Fans of the Civilization series have been eagerly anticipating the next installment for almost eight years, and now, at this year’s Summer Game Fest, we finally got confirmation that it’s coming – Civilization 7! Recently, a sneak peek at the gameplay was unveiled at Gamescom. The trailer showcased the updates the development team has made to the franchise with Civ 7, and an exciting announcement was also made about who will be the game’s narrator – Gwendoline Christie, best known for her role in Game of Thrones!

Over the past few years, Christie has gained widespread recognition. Her groundbreaking role as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones propelled her to fame, and since then, she’s landed leading roles in blockbuster film series such as Star Wars and The Hunger Games, along with popular TV shows like The Sandman and Wednesday. She also contributed to a few Star Wars video games by playing Captain Phasma from the live-action franchise. However, her role as narrator in Civilization 7 marks her most significant venture into the digital realm so far.

Fun fact: Sean Bean, known for his role as Ned Stark in the initial season of ‘Game of Thrones’, isn’t the only former cast member to narrate a Civilization game. In fact, he lent his voice to ‘Civ 6’. It seems Firaxis has been exploring this theme, so it wouldn’t be surprising if ‘Civilization 8’ features Nikolaj Coster-Waldau or Maisie Williams for the voiceovers.

It’s exciting to observe that Civilization 7 is carrying on the tradition of bringing big names into its established series, and they are marketing this new release as a groundbreaking new chapter. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it seems Firaxis is living up to their promise. In an unprecedented move for the franchise, players will now have the opportunity to choose their Leader and civilization independently. This change could potentially expand the strategic possibilities in Civilization 7 beyond anything we’ve seen before in earlier versions.

The game titled “Civilization 7” is scheduled to debut on February 11th, 2025 across PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC gaming platforms. What makes this release unique compared to its predecessors is that it will be available on all four systems at the same time.
