The Last Ronin Live-Action R-rated Movie
In April, it became known that Paramount was working on a live-action, adult-oriented version of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.” This project is being overseen by Walter Hamada, who previously led DC Films at Warner Bros., and now supervises the studio’s horror division. The upcoming film takes inspiration from the IDW graphic novel “The Last Ronin,” which depicts a post-apocalyptic New York City in the future, where only one Turtle remains alive and sets out to avenge his deceased brothers. The script for this movie is being written by Tyler Burton Smith, who has previously worked on the 2019 film “Chucky” and the R-rated action movie “Boy Kills World.
The critically acclaimed comic book, The Last Ronin, serves as the concluding chapter of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles saga. Co-written by Tom Waltz (IDW’s TMNT), with artwork by Esau & Isaac Escorza (Heavy Metal) and Ben Bishop (The Far Side of the Moon), this gripping Turtle tale pits the solitary hero against the grandson of their age-old adversary, the Shredder. This mini-series marked the beginning of the ‘Ronin-Verse’ and a prequel titled Last Ronin — The Lost Years, which delves into the series of tragic events leading up to the Last Ronin’s final confrontation.
