It was reported last year that OpenAI might be on the brink of bankruptcy, potentially losing a staggering $5 billion in the next twelve months. Yet, against all odds, investors such as Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Thrive Capital managed to secure an impressive $6.6 billion investment for the company, dramatically increasing its market value to a whopping $156 billion.
Lately, the AI company has concluded another funding round, this time spearheaded by SoftBank, resulting in a massive $40 billion investment. This has significantly increased the company’s market value to an impressive $300 billion. However, OpenAI is finding it challenging to define a clear path towards profitability, partly because of its partnership with Microsoft.
The primary reason behind the company’s financial losses is largely due to expenses related to training and maintaining sophisticated AI systems, employee wages, data costs, and other factors. To offset this significant challenge, the creators of ChatGPT are considering implementing premium subscription plans for their advanced AI models, which will be designed to tackle more intricate problems at a higher cost.
It appears that OpenAI is planning to offer both weekly and lifetime subscriptions for accessing their advanced AI services in the future. At present, users can opt for either a monthly or annual payment plan for OpenAI’s subscription plans.
Based on a post by @M1Astra via Android Authority, the analysis of ChatGPT’s recent update suggests that OpenAI could be planning to launch both weekly and lifetime subscription options in the near future.
The coded messages suggest a possible modification might affect the premium version of ChatGPT, priced at $20 per month (known as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus). Alternatively, users have the option to purchase annual subscriptions for either the ChatGPT Team or Enterprise editions.
It’s not surprising that OpenAI might soon offer a weekly subscription for ChatGPT, as this approach appears more convenient for users who only occasionally need to use its advanced features.
It’s intriguing to consider how OpenAI might introduce a lifetime subscription option for ChatGPT Plus, and whether users will embrace this change. Given the ongoing development of generative AI, it appears that costs are increasing as these technologies reach new peaks.
