As a longtime Marvel fan who has followed the gritty exploits of the Defenders since their Netflix debut, I must say that seeing Colleen Wing, one of my favorite non-powered heroes, gain possession of an Infinity Stone is nothing short of exhilarating! The Mind Stone choosing her as its new host in the recent Incredible Hulk Annual #1 was a shocking yet delightful twist.
Among the Marvel characters introduced during Netflix’s tenure is Daredevil, who first appeared in 2015. This series marked the beginning of a gritty crime-fighting universe that eventually led to the joint appearance in the event series, The Defenders. Characters like Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Punisher, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing were introduced, most of whom didn’t have any superpowers. Yet, if given powers, they would likely embrace them. In a recent turn of events, one of these heroes has discovered that powers can be quite useful when dealing with an adversary as formidable as Thanos.

Incredible Hulk Annual #1 marks the sixth installment of the “Infinity Watch” crossover series. This issue is penned by Derek Landy, Geoff Shaw, Frank Martin, and VC’s Cory Petit. As it’s an annual Hulk story, the central conflict revolves around a confrontation between Hulk and Thanos. However, the narrative also advances the plot of the Infinity Stones, which have taken on sentient properties and seek human hosts.
Colleen Wing is the new host of an Infinity Stone
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “I stumble upon a forest one day, and there, I find Worldmind. I called out to him telepathically, and he seemed to respond. He proposes that I become his bodyguard, which leaves me bewildered given my lack of superpowers and his possession of an Infinity Stone. It turns out Thanos is hunting for the Mind Stone too, and after eliminating Worldmind, he sets his sights on the Hulk. In a twist of fate, the Mind Stone selects me as its new host.”
In response to Thanos demanding the Mind Stone from Colleen, she firmly refuses and stabs him with her cosmic-powered sword, temporarily incapacitating him. However, Thanos later revives. Hulk then delivers a powerful strike to Thanos, ensuring he won’t wake up anytime soon. Hulk then departs, instructing Colleen to ensure the Mind Stone no longer summons him.
Alone, Colleen Wing must adapt to her latest circumstances, a process that will carry on in the forthcoming ‘Infinity Watch’ limited series penned by Derek Landy and illustrated by Ruairi Coleman. This series marks the conclusion of the contemporary Infinity Watch saga.
Landy remarks, “It’s not every day I get the chance to create a new team of heroes… and even less frequently do I draft a team of misfits and troublemakers!” He explains that this team consists primarily of eccentrics, outlaws, and, to be honest, fools who unexpectedly discover they are the most powerful beings around. With great perils looming, crafting these quarrelsome, self-centered individuals as they navigate from playful mishaps to reality-twisting terror has been a delightful challenge. The question then arises: if your main characters possess omnipotence, how fearsome must the adversary be in order to even stand a chance against them?
