A New X-Men Team Debuts and an Ultimate Universe Event Begins in Marvel’s FCBD First Look

As a lifelong comic book enthusiast, I must say that this year’s Free Comic Book Day lineup is nothing short of extraordinary! From the thrilling adventures of Iron Man and his pals to the heartwarming tales of Ironheart and her fellow heroes, it’s clear that Disney Jr. has truly outdone themselves with their new shows. And let’s not forget about our friendly neighborhood Spidey and his amazing friends, who continue to make New York City a safer place for all!

But what really sets this year apart is the inclusion of the Ironheart/Marvel’s Voices issue, celebrating the groundbreaking work of Black creators in comics. It’s always a pleasure to see such diverse and empowering stories being brought to life on the page, and I can’t wait to see what Justina Ireland has in store for us!

Lastly, it’s not every day you find humor in a comic book lineup, but the Iron Man & His Awesome Friends/Spidey & His Amazing Friends issue is sure to bring a smile to both young and old readers alike. The easy-to-read stories and activity pages are perfect for newcomers to the world of comics, while still being engaging enough for seasoned fans.

All in all, Free Comic Book Day 2025 promises to be a day filled with excitement, diversity, and laughter. Mark your calendars, folks! This is one comic book event you won’t want to miss!

Oh, and don’t forget to wear your cape – you never know when you might need to swing into action yourself!

Marvel is offering fans a sneak peek at the comic books they can get for free on May 3rd, which is Free Comic Book Day. If you’re enthusiastic about the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man, or the Ultimate Universe, then this day is tailored just for you! Marvel plans to showcase these iconic characters in as many as five of their Free Comic Book Day titles this spring. This special event serves as a prelude to the arrival of Marvel’s First Family on the big screen in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, an exciting new take on the X-Men, the beginning of a fresh journey in the Ultimate Universe, a brand new chapter for The Amazing Spider-Man and Star Wars comics, and much more!

As a longtime comic book enthusiast with over two decades of reading under my belt, I must say that Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) offerings this year look absolutely fantastic! Having grown up reading titles like Fantastic Four and X-Men, it’s thrilling to see the return of these classic characters in new adventures. The collaboration between Ryan North and Humberto Ramos on the Fantastic Four is particularly exciting, as I have always admired their unique storytelling styles.

I’m also intrigued by the All-New, All-Different X-Men tale by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, as I have enjoyed their work in the past. And let’s not forget Chip Zdarsky, whose work has always been a highlight of any comic book event.

The mashup titles like Iron Man & His Awesome Friends/Spidey & His Amazing Friends also pique my interest, as I can’t resist a good team-up story. Overall, Marvel’s FCBD lineup looks like it will offer something for everyone and I can’t wait to get my hands on these comics!

Initially, the opening scene depicts a fight between X-Men members, specifically Cyclops firing a red optical blast at Colossus. Upon closer inspection, it seems this could be a flashback to the original X-Men team, marking their 50th anniversary this year. Notably, Cyclops is wearing his traditional costume, and the lineup includes Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Thunderbird as well.

In issue #1 of the Amazing Spider-Man/Ultimate Universe, Deniz Camp, Cody Ziglar, and Jonas Scharf set the stage for what could be the Ultimate Incursion, as Miles Morales reconnects with a tense The Maker. Elsewhere, we catch glimpses of Spider-Man’s future, Ironheart battling a skybound villain, Luke Skywalker facing off against pirates, Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Tensu Run tracking the wicked Corlis Rath, and an ominous portrayal of Darth Vader.

In the first issue of Timeslide, several significant future events were hinted at, replacing the usual Timeless entries. This comic foreshadowed numerous major storylines that would unfold in the Marvel Universe by 2025, such as “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” and “One World Under Doom.
