As someone who’s been sailing the Grand Line of One Piece fandom for what feels like eternity, I can confidently say that this new development has sent shivers down my spine and joy coursing through my veins. The idea of a One Piece bullet train, traversing the very lands Luffy and his crew have trodden, is nothing short of a dream come true for us fans.
The Pirates of the Straw Hat crew are making their mark globally, thanks to the enduring appeal of the anime series, the original manga, and the live-action adaptation on Netflix. Luffy’s journey to rule as pirate king is gaining traction beyond typical anime enthusiast circles. As One Piece‘s influence expands in North America, its stronghold in Japan remains steadfast. In Japan, you’ll find an increasing number of One Piece cafes, gyms, and attractions, and the country is planning to take this a step further with a bullet train set to debut in 2025 that pays tribute to the Grand Line from the series.
The newly branded “One Piece” train is actually known as the “Sanyo Shinkansen,” a high-speed rail service in Japan that debuted on the tracks in 1972. For this joint venture, three trains will be decorated with the Straw Hats emblem, alongside exclusive merchandise celebrating this unique alliance. This collaboration set for 2025 is not the first time One Piece characters have hit the rails; in 2023, the “Sunny Train” transformed a locomotive into the Straw Hats’ preferred transportation method. Despite the shonen series reaching its final saga, Luffy and his crew continue to find innovative ways to make an impact.

The One Piece Train Is About To Leave The Station
In this upcoming collaboration between the shonen franchise and the real world, the Sanyo region – nestled between the sea and mountains – will be the stage for an exciting journey. This area has a rich history rooted in piracy, which has shaped its culture and traditions. Today, it continues to inspire dreams of adventure.
Below, you’ll find the initial ideas for the One Piece-themed train. Although the exact launch date for the One Piece train isn’t announced yet, fans in Japan should get ready to witness this train traversing through cities such as Osaka, Hyogo, Okayama, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, and Fukuoka (and a few more).

Starting from spring 2025, a collaborative project with the Shinkansen (bullet train) line named “Grand Rail” will be launched! The concept of this project is inspired by “One Piece” and three sets of “One Piece Shinkansen” are scheduled to appear.
