What Is the Plot of The Colors Within?

From my perspective, I’m drawn into a narrative that revolves around me, an onlooker, and Tosuko, a high school student with an extraordinary gift – she can perceive people’s emotions as colors. Upon our initial encounter with Kimi, her classmate, I notice a captivating spectrum of colors emanating from her. Intrigued, I find myself trailing Kimi to a bookstore, where she mentions her talent for playing the piano. Our discussion about music sparks an idea, and we eventually assemble a band, with Kimi on the guitar, Tosuko and I exchanging roles as vocalist and keyboardist, and Rui, a boy with an affinity for musical gear, contributing his skills on the theremin. As our friendship deepens, we face various challenges in our personal lives, which form the backbone of this compelling tale.

The Colors Within” is admired for its depiction of inner beauty and the delight in appreciating art. The narrative unfolds within the confines of an all-girl Catholic high school, delving into topics such as friendship and self-realization. This masterpiece has garnered significant recognition, winning the prestigious Golden Goblet Award for Best Animation Film at the 2024 Shanghai International Film Festival and sharing the Audience Award at the 7th Animation Is Film Festival. On July 16th, 2024, a manga adaptation by Sanami Suzuki began publication on Kadokawa Shoten’s Comic Newtype online platform.
