- A new third-party mod ships nifty features to Windows 11 and Windows 10, including Windows 12’s rumored floating Taskbar and Tiling Windows Manager to promote multitasking.
- The tool ships with a fully customizable desktop environment for Windows 10 and Windows 11, but it won’t work if Microsoft Edge isn’t installed on your PC.
As a seasoned tech researcher with decades of hands-on experience under my belt, I must admit that the allure of customization and enhanced functionality has always been a siren call for me. The recent development of Seelen UI Utility for Windows 11 and Windows 10 is nothing short of intriguing.
Microsoft is pressing ahead with its strategy to discontinue Windows 10 support within the next year, a move that has raised eyebrows among users who are determined to keep using Windows 10, despite Microsoft’s persistent efforts to encourage an upgrade to Windows 11 by means of full-screen multi-page advertisements. A community organization has submitted a petition urging Microsoft to rethink its decision and prolong support for the operating system, arguing that this could result in a significant increase in electronic waste, potentially jeopardizing the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
It appears that Microsoft has addressed this issue by offering an extension for paid support on Windows 10 until three years after October 14, 2025, for both commercial and personal users. Nevertheless, purchasing a new Windows 11 PC or upgrading to Windows 11 might be a more practical choice. The strict system requirements for Windows 11 and its design flaws are likely the primary reasons hindering users from making the upgrade.
Windows 12’s rumored floating dock comes to Windows 11
It turns out, there could be an alternative for addressing the shortcomings found in some of the design aspects. A fresh modification, known as Seelen UI utility, is being developed, enabling Windows 11 users to customize and alter specific design components within the operating system’s interface based on their preferences. This includes the reintroduction of a Taskbar that floats, which was previously leaked in connection with Windows 12 (via Neowin).
This utility comes equipped with a personalizable desktop layout for both Windows 11 and Windows 10. It also includes a Taskbar that floats at the bottom of the screen, mimicking Microsoft’s proposed design for “Windows 12” and resembling macOS’s floating dock. You can move this floating Taskbar around and even align it vertically on your screen.
As stated by the creator, Seelen offers an “easy-to-use yet potent solution for organizing your workspace and tailoring it to your preferences.” The application additionally includes a Tiling Windows Manager, enabling windows to self-arrange, thereby simplifying multitasking significantly.
To utilize the Seelen UI Utility effectively, it’s essential to have Microsoft Edge installed on your computer. During installation, the WebView runtime will also be added to Windows 10 devices.
