Aang Grows Up: Shocking First Look at Adult Avatar Coming Sooner Than You Think

The classic animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, is making a comeback to cinemas with a fresh new movie, and select fans will get an early peek at Aang’s continuation, named Aang: The Last Airbender. To celebrate its 20th anniversary since the original show’s debut, Avatar: The Last Airbender is rolling out a host of new projects, with one being a brand-new movie that picks up from where the initial series left off and delves deeper into Aang’s life at a later stage hinted in The Legend of Korra sequel.

As per The Hollywood Reporter’s latest update, Paramount Animation is set to unveil the initial glimpses of the upcoming movie titled “Aang: The Last Airbender” during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival from June 8-15. While specific dates for a fuller reveal haven’t been announced, those attending this prestigious event should definitely stay tuned for updates regarding the film.

What Is Aang: The Last Airbender?

Under the joint production of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, the long-awaited movie titled Aang: The Last Airbender is set to hit theaters on January 30th, 2026. While specific details about the plot have yet to be disclosed, it’s been confirmed that this upcoming story, helmed by Avatar Studios, will take place between Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, focusing on an older Aang than previously shown in the original series. Intriguingly, Eric Nam has been chosen to portray the adult Aang, and he will be joined by a distinguished voice cast for this eagerly anticipated film.

In the upcoming movie “Aang: The Last Airbender”, actors like Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Román Zaragoza are expected to join the cast. However, the specific roles they will play have not been disclosed yet, so it remains uncertain whether they will be friends or enemies. Similarly, the return of the original voice actors from the animated series for their older character versions in the new films is also undecided as Aang has been recast, and it’s unclear if the rest of the main gang will follow suit.

What’s Next for Avatar: The Last Airbender?

In my observation, it’s not just this movie that’s in the pipeline for Avatar: The Last Airbender by Avatar Studios. There’s an exciting new development – a sequel series called Avatar: Seven Havens has been officially confirmed! This upcoming animated series will unfold after The Legend of Korra, following the official timeline. A new Avatar will be introduced once Korra’s era is over, and this series will consist of 2D animation with a total of 26 episodes split across two distinct Book entries.

Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, known for their work on “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra,” are back as series creators and executive producers, alongside Ethan Spaulding in the role of executive producer and Sehaj Sethi as co-executive producer. No release date has been set for the upcoming sequel series, and details about its voice cast remain undisclosed at this time. However, with these new projects underway, it promises to be an exciting era for fans of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.
