Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph Teases Cameos in Season 4 Finale

Sheryl Lee Ralph is teasing some Abbott Elementary substitutes.

On the red carpet of the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2025 held on February 23rd, the actress, known for her role as Barbara Howard, a long-standing elementary school teacher in the cherished ABC series, provided a sneak peek into what viewers can anticipate from the final episode of season four.

Sheryl shared with Will Marfuggi from TopMob News on the SAG Awards red carpet outside the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles that she has one or two singers she particularly likes, hinting, “Just as everyone has a favorite city, they’ll both be in attendance.

Indeed, it’s plausible that Sheryl might have been hinting at a change of location for the finale. This was later verified by Janelle James, one of the series’ stars who portrays Principal Ava Coleman, when she shared with TopMob, “Typically, we film in L.A., but we’re shooting in Philadelphia this time.

After the Super Bowl LIX, Janelle expressed her enthusiasm for filming in the Pennsylvania city, where the Philadelphia Eagles had triumphed over the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s worth mentioning that the Eagles are associated with the Abbott family, as quarterback Jalen Hurts, defensive end Brandon Graham, and former center Jason Kelce were all featured during the third season debut of the show.

However, during their recent red carpet interviews prior to the season four finale airing on April 16, both Janelle and Lisa Ann Walter (who plays Melissa Schemmenti) remained tight-lipped about any updates. In contrast, Sheryl expressed her enthusiasm for working with the cast after the show was renewed for a fifth season, highlighting her affection for them.

The Dreamgirls alum often expresses how much they enjoy collaborating with others,” they gushed, followed by a playful remark, “Now it seems like many other productions are making similar statements.

Prior to the Emmy Awards, where “Only Murders in the Building” triumphed in the Best Ensemble Cast in a Comedy series category, the victorious star found herself unable to contain her admiration for her fellow nominees. This esteemed group includes Quinta Brunson, the showrunner and lead of “Abbott’s,” as well as Tyler James Williams and Chris Perfetti. Notably, this is their third nomination in the same category.

Sheryl went on saying, ‘Our collaboration is simply outstanding, it’s like pure magic.’ She added, ‘There’s an incredible chemistry between us, which we are grateful for, not just to ourselves, but also to God and Quinta Brunson for bringing us together.’
