Abby Lee Miller is taking legal action.
A former star of “Dance Moms” is filing a lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, claiming that medical personnel there failed to remove a foreign object – a catheter – during a surgical procedure they performed on her.
As reported by TopMob News on June 4 from a lawsuit filed, after undergoing a surgery in 2020 to address spondylolisthesis (a condition where vertebrae slip out of alignment), Miller claimed to have frequently communicated ongoing abdominal pain and discomfort to various doctors, even those who had performed the operation. Nevertheless, she alleged that her complaints were ignored or dismissed by these medical professionals.
According to the lawsuit, by March 2024, Miller’s pain had intensified into chronic and incapacitating pain that significantly affected her daily life. In June, an examination for another problem raised concerns about the affected area, leading eventually to a CT scan which revealed the presence of the foreign object.
During an emergency operation, the item in question was taken out and subsequently recognized as a catheter that had been unintentionally left within [Miller’s] body from previous surgeries. The lawsuit claims that this catheter was sent for further examination in pathology, yet Miller’s request to take possession of the object was turned down.
A 59-year-old individual has filed a lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai and two of their doctors for alleged medical malpractice. This lawsuit encompasses claims of both medical and professional negligence, as well as medical battery. The plaintiff is pursuing approximately $1.5 million in compensation for the damages sustained.
Abby Lee Miller experienced persistent discomfort due to an unidentified object left within her during spinal surgery. Despite voicing her concerns to numerous doctors, none of them arranged any imaging tests to locate the source of her pain. In a statement to NBC News, she expressed that this is not merely a case of medical battery, but it underscores a larger, unfortunate reality: women’s pain is often disregarded or minimized by those who are supposed to be their healers.
Lewis went on to say, “Abby’s situation serves as a haunting warning: even when women openly express their suffering and appear to be in great discomfort, their pain is often still disregarded.

TopMob News has attempted to get a response from Cedars-Sinai regarding their inquiry, but have yet to receive one. Meanwhile, NBC News reported that the hospital said they cannot discuss ongoing legal issues or specific patient care, however, Cedars-Sinai emphasized that “the wellbeing and protection of our patients, staff, and visitors is always our highest concern.
Our commitment is to uphold the top tier of care for everyone we assist,” the statement went on.
Nadine Lewis, Miller’s lawyer, expressed her views on the broader impacts hinted at in the dance instructor’s lawsuit, as these sentiments were also reflected in the legal document itself.
For years, Abby Lee Miller endured persistent pain due to an unidentified object left in her during spinal surgery. Regardless of her repeated pleas to numerous doctors, none of them ordered any diagnostic imaging to identify the cause of her discomfort,” she shared with NBC News. This situation, she added, is not merely a case of medical battery; it underscores a troubling reality: women’s pain is frequently disregarded or downplayed by the very healthcare professionals who pledge to help them.

Just imagine, Raven-Symoné and Miranda Pearman-Maday, I can hardly contain my excitement when I share this dream with you! And should fortune favor me with this opportunity, well, let’s just say the spotlight will be retired after that performance, giving way to a new chapter filled with little ones.” This was shared during our chat on an episode of The Best Podcast Ever back in August 2023. You can catch my debut EP, Guilty Pleasure, which dropped in July 2024.

Having tasted both lives, she now understands what she wants, and there seems to be a way to harmoniously blend those two aspects of life together in the middle.
As a dedicated follower, I embarked on a journey in 2021 that included the launch of Millar and my podcast, Out of Line, and chronicling my travels to Coachella and Stagecoach for my massive Instagram audience of over three million.
