Abby’s Muscles Less Relevant to HBO’s The Last of Us Adaption

As I, a gamer, step into the shoes of Abigail “Abby” Anderson in Season 2 of HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, I won’t need to focus on bulking up for the role. Neil Druckmann, our showrunner and the big boss at Naughty Dog, mentioned this, along with other reasons, because there’s less constant violent action scene by scene in the storyline.

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly (credit to Eurogamer), Druckmann explains that the show places a greater emphasis on drama over action. Moreover, Abby’s heavier movement style within the game was designed to resemble Joel’s, serving as a stark contrast to Ellie’s more nimble gameplay characteristics. Fans had wished for quite some time that Dever could land the role of Ellie (later played by Bella Ramsey), given their noticeable similarity. Interestingly, Dever herself had also shown interest in the part. If cast as the potentially contentious character, Dever – who has already gained community approval – could provide a unique perspective and, ideally, offer a deeper examination of an already complex role.

We needed to locate an individual with whom we could establish a bond similar to the one we share with Bella Ramsey. Finding someone as talented as Kaitlyn was no easy task.
