In a fresh take on the DC Universe, the Absolute DC Universe offers unique perspectives on numerous DC superheroes, leaving many other characters with untapped potential waiting to be explored under this new lens. The Absolute DC Universe serves as an alternate reality within the DC multiverse, crafted by the very essence of Darkseid, introducing revamped versions of DC’s heroes with entirely novel background stories. This new universe took off in late 2024, as Absolute DC’s rendition of the Trinity paved the way for the diverse interpretations we would see across the Absolute line. Given the immense success of Absolute DC in the comic book community, it is only natural to anticipate an Absolute DC Justice League crossover event.
So far, the Absolute Universe by DC has introduced fresh takes on characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter. These heroes have significantly boosted the popularity of Absolute DC as a groundbreaking comic book series. However, it’s clear that these six characters represent just a small fraction of what Absolute DC is capable of achieving as a comprehensive reimagining. In the pipeline are more Absolute DC titles featuring unnamed characters, and here are five potential candidates for the next group of DC superheroes to receive an Absolute DC makeover.
1) Aquaman
Given the current lineup of characters in the Absolute DC series, it’s almost inevitable that Aquaman, who was not part of the initial classic Justice League lineup, will receive an Absolute makeover next. This is primarily because the mainline Aquaman comic has been preparing for his debut in this series. Over the years, Aquaman has been one of DC’s most frequently revamped heroes, and his character underwent a grittier transformation in the mid-90s. Moreover, Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Aquaman on screen has also reimagined Arthur Curry’s cultural background as Pacific Islander heritage. The Absolute DC series could be the ideal platform to officially adopt this on-screen interpretation of Aquaman in the comics, while also making significant changes and revisions to his backstory, similar to what other Justice League members have experienced.
2) Shazam
Billy Batson, also known as Shazam, is one of the most cheerful superheroes within the DC universe, given that he transforms into a powerful adult simply by yelling “Shazam!” In comparison to other DC characters, Shazam has often been on the periphery of the main Justice League. Since Absolute DC dedicated its entire first year’s run to Justice League members, Shazam could be an ideal choice for the first character reimagined in Absolute DC who isn’t a fixed member of the team. The fact that Billy’s transformation occurs by invoking his superhero name opens up numerous possibilities for reinventing Shazam into a completely new character within the Absolute Universe of DC.
3) Cyborg
As a fan of Victor Stone, also known as Cyborg, I find him to be quite unique among the superheroes in the DC universe. Initially introduced as part of the Teen Titans, his character has evolved to become an integral member of the Justice League in the DC New 52 reboot. The flexibility in Victor’s character background and team allegiance presents a fantastic opportunity for Absolute DC to reinvent how he acquires his powers and metallic physique. Whether he begins as a Teen Titan, a Justice Leaguer, both, or like other Absolute DC characters, not associated with any team, is open to interpretation. Moreover, the technological abilities of Cyborg can be significantly enhanced through the lens of Absolute DC, offering a fresh perspective that we’ve never seen from this character before, much like how every preceding superhero in Absolute DC has been reimagined.
4) Green Arrow
As a dedicated movie enthusiast who’s always been captivated by the world of DC superheroes, I can’t help but express my excitement about the potential transformation of one of my favorites โ Green Arrow, aka Oliver Queen. Just imagine how breathtaking it would be to witness his Absolute DC reimagining!
Much like Shazam, Green Arrow has graced our screens as a hero with strong ties to the Justice League, yet not among its original members. The Absolute DC universe could truly innovate by including Oliver in its founding team. It would be intriguing to see how his character would fit and evolve within this iconic group.
Moreover, Green Arrow’s origins have often been reminiscent of Batman, armed with a bow instead of a bat. The Absolute DC universe could seize the opportunity for some clever meta-tales, maybe even depicting an alternative version of Bruce Wayne who finds inspiration in Green Arrow’s crime-fighting approach, alongside any other creative reinterpretations they might weave into his backstory.
5) The Flash (Barry Allen)
As a passionate movie-goer and die-hard fan of DC Comics, I can’t help but feel the excitement brewing as we ponder the potential introduction of Barry Allen, aka The Flash, into the Absolute Universe. You see, while Wally West has already donned the scarlet suit, delving deeper into the rich lore of the Flash and the multiverse is where things get truly fascinating for Absolute DC.
Fans of The Flash are well-versed in the many heroes who’ve borne the mantle of the Fastest Man Alive, and welcoming Barry Allen could weave his extensive history into the fabric of the Absolute Universe, all while providing another intriguing avenue to explore. After all, the multiverse is an integral part of what makes DC Comics so unique, and Absolute DC, as a reality born from the energy of Darkseid, stands as a testament to that very fact.
Bringing Barry Allen into the Absolute Universe could serve as the key to unlocking the origin story of this universe in its entirety. Moreover, his connection to the Speed Force would not only deepen our understanding of the Absolute Universe but also help us grasp the very essence of what makes DC’s multiverse so extraordinary. In essence, Barry Allen’s arrival could be the perfect moment to pull back the curtain and reveal the hidden mysteries that lie at the heart of the Absolute Universe.
