Absolute Power Brings Back a Long-Forgotten DC Hero

As a long-time DC Comics enthusiast who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless heroes and villains, I must say that the return of Air Wave in “Absolute Power” #2 has me utterly thrilled! It’s been quite some time since we last saw this underrated character grace the pages of a comic book. Mark Waid and Dan Mora have crafted a story that not only reintroduces Air Wave, but also sets the stage for what promises to be an epic showdown between our heroes and the relentless Amanda Waller.

The storyline titled “Absolute Power” is set to make a significant impact on the DC Universe, paving the way for the All In and Absolute Universe projects this year. In the second installment of this series, writer Mark Waid and artist Dan Mora have reintroduced a character who hasn’t been seen in print for quite some time.

As Amanda Waller’s global crackdown on metahumans persists, those who have evaded capture find sanctuary at the Fortress of Solitude. At this safe haven, Nightwing assumes command over the multitude of metahumans intent on thwarting Waller. It is here that we encounter Air Wave once more. The character appears briefly as the heroes divide and form teams, with Mister Terrific enlisting him and Blue Beetle for his squadron.

Who is Air Wave?

Air Wave is a superhero mantle that has been passed on to several characters in comic book history. The latest hero to take up this role is Harold Jordan, who uses his sound-based abilities to combat crime. If the name rings a bell, it’s because he’s related to Hal Jordan, frequently appearing in tales connected to Green Lantern. In the graphic novel “Absolute Power“, Air Wave’s costume is green and gold instead of the cobalt and gold that Harold Jordan recently wore.

Following Amanda Waller’s decisive win, metahumans across the DC universe have been left powerless, dispersed, and grappling with a crushing defeat. However, the spirit of resistance endures. The summary for Absolute Power #2 states that any remaining heroes not captured by the malevolent TRINITY are gathering at Superman’s Fortress of Solitude… yet even this sanctuary of tranquility and optimism cannot escape Waller’s relentless onslaught. Dreamer, a prophetic figure, has foreseen Waller’s weapons targeting the icy wilderness where our heroes recuperate… and the general leading the charge to destroy the fortress is a stunning revelation that will leave you astounded. This second issue of the ABSOLUTE POWER saga pits the underdog against total global conquest!

Absolute Power #2 is now available wherever comics are sold.
